His head felt rather very heavy, the weight of the last few days pressing down on him—like a barrier had just been lifted, and an avalanche had suddenly fallen on him. He had never planned or imagined that the press conference would make any difference. Or even planned that the work trip would be an occasion that would mark a turning point, a chance to make things right with her, to try to get to know her better. But it happened. And then, just like a curse, everything had turned around for the worse. Now, it would only be a reminder of everything he had done wrong. Of all the ways he had ever failed her.
