She had been informed later that night by her assistant, Irene, and also by Edward that he was traveling for a couple of days for a business trip. Hence she was attending a company event with Benicio who would be standing in for Edward as the other head of their partnership.
• The grand ballroom shimmered as a result of the soft glow of the golden chandeliers, their ornate arms stretching wide like the embrace of something ancient and regal. Laughter, conversation, and the soft clinking of champagne glasses filled the space with a low, elegant hum.
