Chapter 23 Ramen

  • I used to think that ramen originated from Korea, mostly due to the fact that I always saw them having it in movies such as "Mr Queen" and "What's Wrong With Secretary Kim?" but actually, the origins of ramen can be traced back to Yokohama Chinatown in the early 20th century. The word "ramen" is actually a Japanese borrowing of the Chinese word lāmiàn (拉麵), meaning "pulled noodles."
  • Ramen was one meal that I could always have even when I'm having a bad day. Do you have a bad day and don't feel like eating? Have some ramen.
  • When I say ramen, I don't just mean noodles, because trust me, although most people don't get it, there is a big difference between ramen and ordinary noodles. The broth that came along with it, and noodles in the ramen which had this special ability of being cooked without getting soft, the toppings that could range from radish to kimchi, to pickles by the side, and if pork belly were to be added, then I would joyfully embrace death after eating.
