Chapter 102 Sweet Affairs

• "Get upstairs, quick," I whispered, shooing her away. She smiled and mouthed thank you as she headed to the steps. Then, to my dismay, the sounds I heard turned out to be real footsteps after all. My heart was racing as I imagined Dad's stern scowl, while he lit into Ada.
• Thinking for sure we were doomed, I pursed my lips and braced myself for a scolding. When the figure was visible, however, I wasn't afraid but equally surprised. It was Mr. Williams.All three of us gawked at each other in astonishment. After the initial jump scare had worn off, I introduced Ada.
• "Ada, this is Mr. Williams," I said, trying to keep the tremor out of my voice.
