- A few months later, Lisa's hospital room was filled with the sterile scent of antiseptic and beeping from machines everywhere. The only mute thing in this room filled with joy and excitement was the dull beige walls. Kenneth paced the floor nervously beside the bed, running fingers through his hair, as every so often he would look at the time. Every second felt like an eternity as his heartbeat raced in anticipation of what was to come.
- Lisa lay on the bed, her face beading with a film of perspiration, but a light within her eyes-the determined and loving light. Kenneth took her hand in his and squeezed reassuringly. "You're doing so well, Lisa," he whispered, tight with emotion.
- She smiled, tired and reassuring. "We're almost there, Kenneth," she said, panting between bracing herself against another wave of pain.
