Chapter 309 Proserpina Before The Devil

  • Feeling like a woman being led to her death, I walked slowly down the carpeted corridors. I had not been given any kind of footwear, a deliberate omission, I suspected, to humiliate me further. I shivered slightly as a gust of wind blew in, and seemed to sweep down the corridor.
  • Three women and two bodyguards led me to a large wooden door which had brass bolts, a decorative device, I reflected, in my attempt to take my mind off whatever lay beyond that formidable door. Drawing myself up to my full five feet, I raised my chin and entered, flanked by just the guards, the women having melted away.
  • The dining hall had been designed to impress. That was my first thought.
