• The oversized bear sits ominously in the corner, and that card—Arkadi’s twisted little message—stares back at me like a ticking bomb. We’ve messed up by letting those slip through. The nurse brought them in otherwise I would have known instantly. As much as I want to keep Alissia under our watch twenty-four-seven to prevent her from doing something reckless and setting back her recovery, I know I have to give her some space. It doesn’t mean I’m happy about it. I just hope Axel can keep both her and Jenni calm and inside where they’re safe.
