Chapter 35 Fucked Up

• It had been a week since Tegan left. I hadn't reached out; I knew she needed time. But I wasn't going to give up. Not that easily. I would chase her back no matter how long it took. I knew in my heart she was the one for me. I just didn't know the reason behind it was a fated mate bond. I couldn't tell the Elders this, they would have her killed for her mere presence. Maybe the curse wasn't as strong as they thought? I felt this strong connection to her, my wolf felt overprotective and needy, then there were the sparks. How had I not put all the pieces together for what all the signs meant? Maybe it was best I hadn't recognized it, then the outcome could have been a lot worse for us both. But that didn't stop the ache in my chest I felt with her being gone.
• I swirled the golden liquid in my cup before taking a sip and letting out a sigh. I hadn't slept much since she left. I couldn't stop thinking about what I did wrong. I could have fought harder, helped her get her wolf out. The signs of a wolf were all there, she just needed the extra push, but I gave her the push, just not the good kind. I allowed them to dictate my future and push away my one chance of happiness, and for what? To be a miserable king the rest of my life? There was no way I would ever replace her. It wouldn't happen.
