Chapter 52 Unforgotten Face

  • The heavy sound of angry clatter from red stilettoes echoes the hospital corridor as Stacy tries to walks out angrily from the board meeting it would be such an understatement to say that her life as the only woman on the board is hard- it is a living hell! She is never good enough- and she will never be. Maybe this is the reason. Stacy continues to walk angrily towards her office as she thinks of these thoughts. Maybe this is the reason why my father is marrying me off ten years ago. Those bastards! It is not like it is 1969! Stacy slouched on her office chair, throwing her red stilettos under, What?! Just because I said that it might not be a good idea to promote Kyle as one of the Board I because of the obsessive former fiance?! And I am jealous? If what?! Of whom?! What the. "What?!!" Stacy said in a loud angry voice. She later realized that these are not her thoughts anymore but her loud real voice. A new doctor, who we have seen before earlier in this book peeks inside Stacy's office. Too stunned to speak but he knows better to be angry at Stacy neither can he be angry to her with whatever she does. " Just got a little distracted, what is it?" Stacy can hardly recognize this young man nor the night they played together- for her it is not important nor meaningful. The young man handed the phone to Stacy, signaling that her secretary asked him for a favor to give the phone to her because someone is calling. Stacy just nod her head and made the man move away. She mistakenly forgot her phone in the office and asked her secretary to hand it over to her when she comes back from the board meeting. At a second glance, she recalls him, A smile was painted on her face for a second or two Then she comes back to her own world as she clears her throat and answers the phone. "Dr. Sue speaking how may I help you..." Stacy was cut midsentence. She listened eagerly to the man on the other line who clearly uses some time of voice changing device. A red flag! But Stacy did not care, because this red flag said something that arouses her attention, something she is really interested in. The missing link. The last piece of the puzzle she has been trying to solve for ten years. "Do you want to know who ruined your engagement 10 years ago?" I will send you a message and be sure to be there alone." The call ended. Stacy can hardly contain her anticipation for the message, she almost dropped her phone when she got it. It is not important for her who is behind the voice or how did she know about the things he knows about- the fact that he can give that information to Stacy is enough for her to trust whoever this person is. Stacy graduated on top of her class, a young professional and a talented surgeon- but these facts towards her at this moment might be put into question as she runs out of the hospital and went to the place that is on the message. She did not know that she cares about the possible dangers this poses to her life, she would have had second thoughts if she would know what would happen and what would she find out there. It is dark. The place is in the middle of nowhere. Out in the mountains, a five-hour-long drive away from the city. It is past seven in the evening, but it felt like it is already around twelve midnight- not a soul is around. Slowly, fear is creeping through Stacy's vain as the enthusiasm that overcame her several hours ago are as if being seeped out of her body by the darkness of place and the weird noises around the buses. Stacy wants to deny it but slowly, behind her mind, she is starting to doubt her decisions. Stacy almost gave up on the idea of finding her long-lost treasure into the woods and just turn around to go back to safety if she had not seen a light coming from a few meters away. The whole place is so dark that the dim light from a small bonfire can be seen in the distance. Stacy walked towards the source of light, just a few meters away, checking if it is a safe haven that would give her the one she coveted the most. "You are finally here," a voice from the back surprised Stacy, who wouldn't? A tall figure emerges from the background, one who is the most familiar to Stacy. This person's eyes, voice, and height are something she can recognize from a distance and she would never be wrong. "Father?" The person smiled and then guided Stacy inside of what seemed to her is a large warehouse. Stacy has so many questions but she did not dare to ask any of them, she knows better. She is trying to make sense of what is happening and then ask the best questions she can think of- this is how this man had taught her. Stacy's father has always been an upright man, though his hands are not entirely clear his names were never dropped even with the leakage ten years ago- He is cunning and you can never outsmart him. She never thought that this side of her father existed nor can she figure out what is going into his mind. Stacy's father opened a room, a musty dark and cold room without any source of light. But in the corner, She can hear a breathing sound and a faint figure of something moving, or could be someone? "Go on, you have been waiting for this," The suiting voice of Stacy's father gave her the trust to step inside the room, the room wide windows of the room had finally caught a few rays from the moon that made her see a glimpse of what was there. And she is correct, there is really something moving on the corner. It is the head of a person tied on a side, must be too tired to be able to sleep in that position. The head is covered by an empty sack as the person's body, especially her hands are tied with a thick robe. Stacy was taken aback. She might be wild, sometimes irrational, but opposite to what other people might think of her, she had never even considered hurting anyone for real. Sure she had said that she "would kill the bitch" that ruined her engagement but that was entirely out of rage, and yes she even mentioned in a conversation the "play with her" but this is not what she meant. But she knows better than to show weakness in front of this man. The sack was lifted and it revealed a sweaty face with tiny yet noticeable bruises- she recognized her instantly-the face she will never forget, even after all these years.
