Chapter 44 The Villain

  • The air is starting to get chilly but the night sky is full of stars though the skyscrapers are doing such a great job of hiding them in plain view. It is a good night as it is not raining. It has been raining for the past two weeks but tonight seems to be a good night. It has been two weeks. Two weeks of hectic preparation for Samantha and Kyle's Engagement. Two weeks of constantly seeing each other. Two weeks of cold shoulders, of pretending that everything is fine and that things are going according to plan. Samantha and Kyle are sitting opposite each other together with their parents in a high-end VIP-only restaurant. Samantha is elegantly slicing the steak trying her best to appear as pleasing as possible to the man sitting in front of her who couldn't care less because his mind is obviously somewhere else or better yet with someone else. This thought hit up Samantha's core as she remembers how brightly Kyle smiled in the picture that Stacy showed her, a smile that Samantha had not and might not be able to see ever. "Please excuse me," Samantha managed to excuse herself just before the first tear left her eyes. Samantha started to question herself, her beauty everything about her. These two weeks have been bitter-sweet for her. She loves that she can see Kyle more often because of the planning, loves that his gorgeous eyes and loving presence are near her. But on the other hand, Samantha cannot stand the fact that for these past two weeks of being together, Kyle's mind is obviously occupied with someone else. Kyle smile, a fake smile that even the dumbest of person can recognize as fake. The more Samantha is with Kyle the more she wanted more from him. At first, she thought being with his is fine even if she keeps on thinking about someone else, but when that happened it seems to be not enough. Now Samantha wanted Kyle to just think of her, to love her the way she loves him. Because in Samantha's mind if Kyle wouldn't be hers then he would not be with someone else. Samantha thought, yes it is greedy and yes she is becoming the most hated character on her beloved novels and novels- the witch. The witch, the villain the side character who is ready to do everything or even to the extent of killing everyone just to make sure that his prince will be with no one else but her. "I know you will never be mine, but then here we are and I can't let you go." Samantha wipes her tears inside while talking to herself inside the comfort room cubicle. "I know you will never love me. But, but. You can't love her otherwise. Because if I can't have you, no one will. " Samantha thought, it is a dangerous thought especially coming from a person as powerful as her family name and status. Samantha collected herself. Dried her tears. Retouched her make-up and then went back to their table wearing her prettiest smile as if nothing happened. This is Samantha's superpower, a skill that she learned as she grow up – pretending to be okay and pretending as if nothing happened. "Sorry to keep you waiting," Samantha asked with a smile looking at the parents and then to Kyle who is obviously looking as bored as hell right now and did not give her a response as if she doesn't exist. The dinner is done. Fake smiles. Fake people. Samantha pretending to be okay. Kyle is pretending to be interested in this affair. It is like watching a silent tragedy as a silent movie. Samantha was comforted by her satin bedcover and the pile of romance novels once she came home. She is ready to open the book that she hadn't finished when Stacy called her. "How was it?" Stacy sounded enthusiastic for some reason. "as usual." Samantha's voice can't sound more down than this. "But did you find her?" "Yea. It is not hard to do." "So? Where is the info? Let's play with her." Samantha felt that something is creepy with the remark. She indeed hated the idea of Kyle being in love with someone else but Samantha is not sure if Stacy is the best person to confine with. "what do you mean to play with her?" confused and nervous, Samantha asked Stacy over the phone. Samantha's heart is beating fast. She is not sure if she understood what Stacy is implying by saying the word Let's play with her but Samantha is sure that it is not something good. Sure, Samantha hated the fact that Kyle is loving someone else besides her. That is the possible reason why Kyle's eyes can't even look at her and treat her as if she is invisible is because of Kyle's first love. However, Samantha is not sure what is extent she can do for a portion of Kyle's love. Is she willing to put a life in danger or worst sacrifice it just for the sake of being loved back? "What do you mean to play with her?" Samantha repeated the question in low tones but Stacy's response is just a series of laughter. The laughter pierces the soul and breaks your eardrum. Stacy's laughter is not pleasing to hear and has a slight tone of creepiness in it. "I will tell you when you get here," Stacy ended the call. Samantha was left hanging, she is not even sure if she would want to go there. But amidst Samantha's chaotic mind, where she is not sure if she is willing to cross the line, something stronger prevailed. Love, a powerful force that is willing to give but then it would accept to receive. Love is said to be stronger than gravity- a power that can bind you forever and make you do things that you did not think you could do. But Samantha's love can be selfish, and at the end of the day, this love has turned Samantha into the character that she hated the most in the movies.-The villain.
