  • The only sound in the dark tunnel was the echo of my footsteps, and I pushed myself onward, adrenaline flowing through my veins. I had no clue where Melissa and her mother had gone, but I couldn't allow worry to take hold. They were counting on me, and I couldn't let them down now.

I remembered the layout of the underground passages from our previous expeditions. They wound like veins beneath the city. I swore behind my breath.
