Chapter 27 Melissa

• I pulled open the loose door and was instantly frozen in place by what I saw. Dr. Thompson and several nurses gathered around Kiesha's bed, their expressions solemn and focused. The monitors, which had been beeping constantly, now blared in a fast-paced pattern.
• Mrs. Harris stood apart, her hands clenched in front of her, her face pallid. Her eyes were wide with fear as she gazed at me. She gasped, "Melissa, what is happening?" as her voice faltered.
• "I...I do not know," I stumbled as my own anxiety increased. I could not help but observe as the experts labored to stabilize Kiesha; I felt like an intruder in the room.
