Chapter 26

  • I was almost bored to death. My plans for the marathon movie night weren't going as planned. I had gone through the third movie and had yet to find any of the romance scenes interesting. It was midnight, and Eric had gone to bed.
  • On the journey back home, it was uncomfortably silent. I had glanced to the side on occasion to notice Eric keeping his attention on the road ahead. He never spared me a glance. Not even when we got home. The only thing said between us was the exchange of goodnight, and that was it. He didn't even bother to eat anything and just went straight to his room. And I wouldn't consider what he ate at the ball as food because, other than the handful of food he stuffed his face with, he barely got to eat anything before the mating incident.
  • With a bowl of popcorn on my side and a diet coke in my hand, I tried to concentrate on the movie before me. I was a big fan of romance movies, despite the exterior I portrayed to people around me. So it was a bit of annoyance when I could not concentrate on the one I watched at the moment. The scenes looked blurry, and the dialogue sounded jumbled in my ears. As if to add to my frustration and taunt me further about the incident at the ball with my brother and Lucy, a scene came up where the main character, who was a young man in his early forties, confessed his feelings to a woman in her early forties. She was at first stunned by his confession and began to shed tears of joy. They embraced and were about to kiss when I picked up the remote and switched off the TV.
