• I killed the switch on the vehicle and stepped out. Ellie came out of the passenger's seat, and Eric came from the back. As today was the latter's eighteenth birthday, I decided to treat him to a trip to the amusement park. All expenses would be paid by myself, of course. He had objected at first, wanting to spend the rest of the day with people his age. But Ellie had argued against it. I didn't want to listen to details, but I deciphered three words from her speech.
