Chapter 104 Don't Stop

  • In the sterile hallway, the rhythmic beeping of a nearby heart monitor was the only sound that dared to intrude on the tense silence. Tony clenched and unclenched his fists, a wave of nausea washing over him. Every beep felt like a hammer blow to his chest. He stole a glance at Enzo, who paced relentlessly, his jaw clenched tight. Enzo, usually the picture of calm, was a tightly coiled spring, worry etched into every line of his face.
  • Tony remembered the last time they'd been in a hospital waiting room, ten years ago, praying for his little sister after a bad car accident. The fear had been the same, a cold knot twisting in his gut. He longed to reach out to Enzo, to offer some words of comfort, but the lump in his throat choked back the words.
  • He checked his watch again. It had been almost five hours since they'd rushed Kai to the hospital. The afternoon sun had dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple. He wondered if Becca is still at home, hoping she hadn't done anything rash out of worry.
