Chapter 7 Her Husband Came Looking for Her

  • “Mark, Mark...”
  • An unconscious Eris tightly gripped Liam’s hand. After a few failed attempts of retracting his hand, he gave up with his attempt, but the name that she had been repetitively calling made his expression dark.
  • When she was admitted to the hospital, she was in a state of deep unconsciousness. Her fever had caused pneumonia and she was in a critical condition.
  • As she refused to release his hand, he had no choice but to follow her into the emergency room.
  • More than two hours had passed since she was transferred to the ward.
  • Having not slept for the whole night, fatigue was clearly visible on Liam’s face. He currently was sitting by the bed while looking at the pale Eris with his brows slightly furrowed.
  • With his arms folded across his chest, Charlie leaned against the door frame while gazing at the harmonious scene in the ward. After a while, he uttered with a smug, “I thought that you won’t be having a woman by your side for the rest of your life. Unexpectedly, you found yourself such a beauty behind my back. Liam, aren’t you going to explain yourself?”
  • Without casting any glance at Charlie, Liam continued to stare at Eris for a long time before he impassively replied, “There is nothing going on between us.”
  • “Tsk, it is nothing; you two only had sex once at most.” The sarcasm in Charlie’s tone was apparent.
  • “Don’t leave...” She dreamt of something and suddenly frowned. She grabbed Liam’s hands with hers and refused to let go.
  • Her slightly sharp nails dug into the back of his hand, but he held her hands tightly, as if he couldn’t feel the pain. “I won’t leave.”
  • Eris gradually calmed down—it might have been because she had heard his promise, but she still continued to mumble.
  • After watching them for a while, Charlie lost interest and shook his head as he left.
  • Her illness this time struck her hard. She had passed out for two whole days before she regained consciousness.
  • When she opened her eyes, she was in a fleeting daze, especially when she saw the unfamiliar face that caused her mind to go blank.
  • Liam’s calm gaze landed on her skinny face. “Are you awake?”
  • “You are...” Eris thought about it, but she failed to recall who the man before her was.
  • “Two nights ago, you suddenly rushed out from the roadside and collapsed in front of my car. Then, you forced yourself on me when you were drunk.” His voice was nonchalant, but there were hints of seriousness in his narrow, attractive eyes.
  • She felt as if she was struck by lightning and couldn’t return to her senses. “Y-You and I...”
  • The broken fragments of memory had allowed her to recall a thing or two about what happened the other night. However, the news came to her so suddenly that she found it hard to accept.
  • He ignored the surprised look on her face and continued, “You have been unconscious for two days. Now that you are awake, let’s settle some scores.”
  • Eris fell silent. Looking at the man before her, the deadpan expression that seemed somewhat similar to Mark suddenly stung her heart.
  • She took a deep breath to calm herself down before softly asking, “What do you want?”
  • “I naturally—” Just as Liam was about to make his request, the door of the ward was pushed open from outside without any warning.
  • Upon hearing the sound, she subconsciously turned to look at the direction of the door.
  • However, the moment her gaze landed on the man with a petrifying aura at the door, her heart involuntarily skipped a beat. Why is Mark here?
