• Confusion, sadness, panic, guilt, and fury pass over Jackson’s face like a television screen, flicking from one to the next. It’s slow, his rise to anger, like a summer storm collecting on a beaches horizon. When the wind gets motionless, and the clouds shift in the sky, collecting rain, waiting for that first crack of lightning. His impending burst of wrath inevitable, and yet I jump when his voice booms through the hallway.
• “Hayden!” He hollers, transforming into Poseidon, God of the Sea, the world whipping around him, his blonde hair glowing with his rage. “Show your face, you motherfucking coward.”
