• Silence consumes the Limo, the door snapping closed behind me. Hayden’s rage is unsettling and toxic, pressing down on me. He’s making me nervous about what he’ll do when he combusts. I watch him stew from the corner of my eye, with his fists clenched and jaw ticking. Steam leaks from his ears, on the verge of losing his shit. I notice the moment it happens, like watching a rope snap in slow motion. The thread bare connection breaking the final straw when he notices the choker still resting on my neck. His face contorting, puffed, and red with rage.
• “MOTHERFUCKER!” He roars, his fist banging against the door handle, his fury making me flinch. “What did you do?” He questions, ice-cold fingers gripping my chin, yanking me to the side. So that I am forced to look into his clear blue eyes. “Answer me, bitch!” He seethes, his nails dig into my flesh, tears prickling my eyes threatening to fall, but I refuse to give him the satisfaction.
