• Jealousy. The very thought should be beneath me, a sentiment far too petty for someone of my rank. Yet, here I am, fuming silently while Cesmae accuses me of exactly that. Worse yet, she's right. I am jealous—of Kylian, of the ease with which she speaks of him, of the affection that blooms in her eyes when his name crosses her lips.
• I cannot let her see that. It would complicate things, and gods know we have enough complications between us. So, I swallow down the ugly truth, burying it beneath a mask of indifference.
