• After the bullet in Maverick was removed, he was basically fine and would be right as rain as long as he rested well. As he lay on the hospital bed, Anna sat at the side and kept him company. “Would you like some fruits, Maverick? I'll peel some for you.”
• “No, thanks.” Maverick's gaze remained fixed outside the window. It had been three days without any news about Josephine, and the hope within him was gradually fading.
• “Are you still worried about her, Maverick?” Anna had known for the past three days that he had been sending men out to search for Josephine. Alas, nothing came out of it. She wanted to advise him to give up, but she could not bring herself to do so. The sight of him in such a state because of Josephine broke her heart, yet there was nothing she could do.
