Chapter 17 She Yielded Again

  • Before Josephine could end the call, Maverick snatched her phone and threw it on the floor, causing it to shatter into pieces.
  • “My phone...” Josephine's gaze fell upon the shattered remains of her phone. It was a phone she had saved up for months to buy. Although its worn-out exterior and fading paint indicated it was long due for an upgrade, she couldn't find it in her heart to replace it.
  • “Would the young heiress of the Quillen family really concern herself with this measly phone that's worth a few hundred? Or perhaps you'd like to reach out to Mr. Cheswick again? I can lend you my phone if that's the case.” Maverick couldn't help but notice that Josephine didn't take him seriously at all. It seemed that whatever he had said a few minutes ago had slipped her mind just moments later.
  • He walked over to the broken phone on the floor. “I'm starting to wonder if you're truly the heiress of the Quillen family,” he remarked.
  • Unbeknownst to him, his unintentional comment made Josephine uneasy. Has he started to doubt me? If he finds out that I'm a fake, the Quillen family will be doomed.
  • She looked at him and said, “Of course I'm Jasmine. Anyway, from now on, I'll listen to whatever you say, so please don't do anything to my father and Flynn. Can you promise me that? I'm begging you.”
  • In response, Maverick simply turned around, preparing to head upstairs. “I won't believe your words. Just stay quietly at home today.”
  • Josephine had no choice but to accept since she had no right to resist.
  • Meanwhile, Flynn tried calling again when the call abruptly ended with a loud bang. However, it went straight to voicemail, which made him grow increasingly worried. Despite so, he quickly realized that he had no idea where she lived, and none of her classmates at school could provide any information either.
  • As such, he continued to linger at the school gate, waiting for Josephine to appear. He waited for a long time, but she never showed up.
  • As the evening approached, Connie and Lynette exited the school together and spotted Flynn. Fixing a sharp gaze on the man, Lynette whispered to Connie, “Wasn't this guy here to see Josephine? Why is he still hanging around?”
  • “It's been two days since Josephine last showed up. There's a chance she might be sick,” Connie replied with concern in her voice.
  • “I doubt she's sick. Since she's already dating a rich guy, does she even need to bother coming to school?” Lynette raised her voice intentionally to make sure Flynn could hear her comment.
  • As expected, Flynn's ears perked up at the mention of Josephine's name. He quickly intercepted them and grabbed onto Lynette's arm before asking in a voice filled with urgency, “What did you just say?”
  • “That hurts! Can you please let go of me first?” Lynette exclaimed in surprise. She never expected this seemingly refined and handsome man in front of her to suddenly grab her arm with such force.
  • Realizing his own heightened emotions, Flynn loosened his grip and said, “You're classmates with Jojo, aren't you? Do you happen to know anything about her? What's going on?”
  • “Josephine used to live in the same dorm as us, but she moved out not long ago. She also quit all her part-time jobs. Rumor has it that she's now being financially supported by a wealthy man. Although we haven't seen him, there's a fancy car that picks her up every day before and after school.” Lynette's voice trailed off when she noticed Flynn's expression growing darker.
  • “That's... that's all I know,” she added before stepping back to maintain a safe distance. This man seems like an elite as well. Could he have been seduced by Josephine's beauty, too? Or perhaps, he's another man who desires a relationship with her?
  • Connie approached Flynn. “Sir, these are just speculations and rumors from our classmates. You don't have to take them too seriously. How about leaving your contact information? If Josephine comes to school, I'll make sure she gets in touch with you.”
  • Flynn thought the suggestion made sense, so he took out a business card and handed it to Connie, saying, “Thank you. I appreciate your help. I'll come back tomorrow.”
  • With that, he hopped into the BMW parked behind him and drove off.
  • Seated on the couch in the office of the deputy CEO of Jurich Group, Blossom looked elegant in her exquisite light pink chiffon dress. A bodyguard could be seen standing nearby as an assistant entered the room with a freshly squeezed glass of juice, greeting, “Ms. Jurich.”
  • “Where's Flynn? Where did he go?” Blossom cast a cold glance at Flynn's secretary. Being possessive by nature, she couldn't tolerate the presence of any woman around Flynn. That was why she made sure even his assistant and secretary were exclusively male.
  • “Ms. Jurich, the deputy CEO mentioned he had some matters to attend to today,” the assistant, Derek Miller, replied, sticking to the explanation Flynn had given before his departure. Although Derek was aware that this vague response wouldn't please the young heiress before him, he couldn't exceed his role as an assistant.
  • “What kind of matters? Is it business-related or personal?” Blossom asked icily. Ever since Flynn returned to the country, he has been acting strangely. He's frequently lost in thought, as if he has something on his mind.
  • Despite asking him about it, Flynn had never revealed his thoughts, which only deepened her suspicions.
  • “Mr. Cheswick didn't say,” came Derek's reply. He sincerely felt that dealing with the young lady in front of him was much more challenging than handling difficult and unreasonable clients.
  • “Isn't it your job as his assistant to follow him wherever he goes? Aren't you supposed to be by his side when he's out on business?” Blossom took a sip of her juice. “Call him and tell him to come back immediately.”
  • As fate would have it, Flynn walked in through the door just then. “Blossom? What brings you here?”
  • The moment Blossom saw him, she immediately rose from her seat and approached him. With a radiant smile adorning her face, she linked her arm with his. “Flynn, where have you been? I wanted to have dinner together.”
  • Flynn glanced at the woman nestled in his embrace and replied, “Sure. I'll join you for dinner.”
  • “I'm not interrupting your work, am I? You've had a busy day, haven't you?” Blossom deliberately probed, testing his response.
  • He has been using work as an excuse to justify his long hours and late returns. Lately, this has become even more apparent, and I really wonder what he's actually busy with.
  • “It's fine. What do you feel like eating? Let's go together,” Flynn said as he wrapped his arm around her waist. The two of them then left the office together.
  • “Flynn, have you been busy with work lately? Why don't we head back to the villa together tonight?” Blossom inquired. The Jurich family had certain requirements for promoting Flynn to the position of deputy CEO, and Blossom was precisely one of them that he needed to please.
  • Flynn glanced at her and replied, “I have something to take care of later. I'll come back tomorrow to keep you company.”
  • “Let me be with you today, then. I won't bother you. I promise,” Blossom insisted, not giving the man a chance to refuse. She wanted to be by his side at all times.
  • In the end, Flynn gave in to her request, knowing that he couldn't avoid her forever. However, it also meant that he couldn't go and find Josephine as he had planned.
  • Maverick was sitting in his office when Anna came in and greeted, “Maverick.”
  • “You're here. Have a seat,” the man said without taking his eyes off the documents in his hand.
  • “Maverick, I heard from Gregory that you've been inquiring about Jurich Group. Is it because of Ms. Quillen?” Anna questioned, doubting the necessity of his action. Jurich Group is a prominent enterprise in Avenport, and taking action against them would come at a considerable cost.
  • Maverick's lips curled into a slight smile as he asked, “Anna, what made you curious about these matters too?”
  • Anna approached him and said, “I'm just looking out for you, Maverick. Is it really worth it for you to do this for her? You have me by your side. Isn't that better?”
  • Maverick wrapped his arm around her waist. “You should go home and get some rest. I'm going to the club tonight to check things out.”
  • Anna smiled sweetly and leaned in to plant a tender kiss on his lips. “All right. I'll prepare something for you to eat.”
  • Because of Jasmine, he's rarely gone to the club lately, unlike before when he used to frequent it.
