Chapter 8 Viciousness
- Finn was so angry his teeth began chattering.
- He had already lowered himself and begged so humbly, yet that was the attitude Nathan gave in return.
- He had already given them a chance, but they didn’t know how to cherish it!
- “You… Just you wait!” Finn shouted before making a run for it, afraid that Nathan might go crazy and hit him again.
- After exchanging glances, Celia and Willard looked at Rebecca.
- “Are we kicking up too much of a fuss?”
- Finn’s last words before leaving were obviously a threat.
- Rebecca couldn’t help but feel a little worried.
- She knew all too well what sort of people Quincy and his son were.
- He had never treated Willard as his own younger brother, so naturally, he didn’t see Willard’s family as family.
- If they upset him, she was sure the man would be capable of doing anything.
- “Not at all,” Nathan calmly interjected. “He told us to wait, so that’s what we’ll do.”
- With that, Nathan started clearing the dishes. Upon seeing that, Celia rushed over to do it instead.
- “Here. Let me do it.”
- She had to admit that her new son-in-law had quite the temper.
- She didn’t realize it before, but now, it was clear that Nathan was determined to protect their family and stop Quincy and Finn from bullying them.
- Was he really a homeless person?
- “It’s been hard on you, Mom,” Nathan said smilingly, showing how well he had fit into his new role.
- Willard was still feeling uneasy but he didn’t know what to say. Besides, it wasn’t like he had the final say in the family.
- Left with no choice, he hid in his room again and timidly closed the door behind him.
- “Now, you’ve truly offended them,” Rebecca muttered with a sigh.
- It was already a miracle that Finn had come to apologize, especially since she’d never seen him humble himself before.
- She was still thinking that she should let the matter go before it blew up, so it wouldn’t worsen the tension within the family.
- Alas, Nathan didn’t seem to care for any of that, and even insisted on Quincy coming personally to apologize.
- How was that even possible?
- That awful, selfish, and arrogant uncle of hers would never bow down to them!
- “You’re wrong.”
- Nathan’s gaze was firm. “They are the ones who have offended me. Like I said before. I won’t let anyone bully you.”
- That look in his eyes sent Rebecca into a panic.
- ……
- One hour soon passed.
- Celia had finished washing the dishes, and when she saw that Nathan had gone for his shower,, she quickly ran into Rebecca’s room.
- “Mom?”
- “Rebecca, who is Nathan really?” Celia whispered. “Somehow, I think he treats you differently.”
- Rebecca blushed.
- “What are you talking about? We don’t know each other at all.”
- She bit her lips. From the first time she met Nathan, he had constantly protected her and her family from being bullied by Quincy and Finn.
- “Are you going to let him sleep here tonight?” Celia asked worriedly..
- Nathan might have been chosen to be Rebecca’s husband, but they weren’t willing to accept the arrangement just yet.
- “He has a mental illness!” she reminded, afraid that Nathan might hurt Rebecca.
- Rebecca hesitated for a while, but she suddenly thought of that firm and clear look in Nathan’s eyes.
- “He won’t hurt me.”
- Creak.
- The bathroom door opened and Celia quickly made her way out, mouthing to her daughter, “There’s a metal bat in my room. Just shout if anything happens!
- Rebecca’s face was red and her heart began pounding loudly.
- Was she really going to let Nathan sleep in her room?
- Bang! Bang! Bang!
- Someone was banging on the main door again.
- Willard was like a startled cat, all his hairs standing on end.
- Celia’s face, too, turned ashen.
- He was here!
- Quincy was here!
- Given his temperament, there was no way he was going to tolerate the humiliation!
- They were doomed!
- Even Rebecca couldn’t help but become nervous. She walked into the living room and stared at the door, as if there were a dozen gangsters with baseball bats behind that door.
- The whole family braced themselves as if they were about to meet a formidable foe.
- “Open the door.”
- Nathan was using a towel to wipe his hair as he smiled and said, “We’ve got guests.”
- Rebecca didn’t know what to do with that relaxed attitude of Nathan’s. Was he truly unafraid? Or did he just not care?
- Nevertheless, she walked to the door and opened it, only to be greeted by Quincy and Finn.
- “Rebecca.”
- Quincy’s face was grim, but he still managed to squeeze a smile out. “I’m here to apologize to you!”
- Rebecca froze.
- The two eavesdropping with their ears to their room door also froze.
- Quincy had come to apologize?
- “Firing you was a misunderstanding. It was all Finn’s fault, and I’ve already taught him a lesson.”
- Quincy pointed to his son, and Finn immediately lowered his head. “I’m sorry Rebecca. I was wrong. Please forgive me.”
- “Some of this was my fault too. I didn’t check properly before firing you, and that was wrong of me,” Quincy continued. “I hope you can forgive me. The company really needs you.”
- His tone was as sincere as it could be.
- If Rebecca still refused to return, there was nothing else he could do.
- “Tomorrow, I’ll be at the office entrance to receive you and reinstate your post. I’ll also personally explain to everybody what happened to do you justice,” Quincy uttered.
- His apology was filled with sincerity, and his attitude was extremely humble now.
- Rebecca didn’t know what to do when she saw Quincy bow slightly.
- She turned back to look at Nathan and saw him nod.
- “Okay, Uncle Quincy. I’ll go back to work tomorrow.”
- “Sure. I’ll wait for you at the main entrance of the office tomorrow. Goodnight.”
- With that, the father and son left, and Rebecca closed the door.
- Disbelief was still written all over her face.
- Quincy had gone to her house to apologize, and with so much sincerity too!
- She had never seen him like that!
- “My brother really came to apologize?”
- Willard pushed the door open, his lips trembling and his eyes reddened.
- His family had been bullied so badly by Quincy over the years, but when did he ever apologize for any of that?
- To Quincy, Willard was a disgrace to the Lambert family. If they weren’t related by blood, Quincy would’ve chased them out of the family long ago!
- “He came to apologize! He came to do that!”
- Celia was also very excited about it. She had clearly suppressed her feelings for too long, and was now a little giddy with excitement.
- As a daughter-in-law of the Lamberts, she had been subject not just to Tobias’ mood, but also to Quincy's, and she had quietly endured all of that for decades.
- When she heard how Quincy had apologized so humbly earlier, Celia couldn’t hold in her emotions anymore.
- “That d*mn b*stard. The day has finally come when he has to beg us.”
- Celia was about to cry.
- When she saw the way her parents reacted, Rebecca took in a deep breath.
- She had always known that her parents had been bullied by Quincy, and had been looked down upon and treated poorly.
- But today, even though it was just once, it was gratifying enough to see Quincy bow his head and apologize.
- Nathan finished drying his hair. “From now on, nobody will make you suffer anymore. Nobody can bully my wife, and nobody can bully my in-laws either.”
- Rebecca and her parents looked dumbfoundedly at Nathan.
- The man who had married into the family was somehow different from other people.
- On the other side, Quincy’s face had darkened since they left Rebecca’s house, and it was so dark it was terrifying.
- Finn followed behind his father and didn’t dare to say a single word.
- Nathan forcing Quincy to show up personally to apologize was as good as giving a slap in the face!
- “Tell all the staff to come in one hour earlier tomorrow and wait for Rebecca at the office entrance!”
- Quincy smiled coldly, his face full of viciousness. “Also, secretly spread the word that Rebecca is sleeping with Mr. Hansen, and wants to force Lambert Corporation to bow down to her. Let’s see if she’d be thick-skinned enough to stay in Lambert Corporation!”
