Chapter 7 Humbly Beg

  • Quincy was perplexed. Matthew put in a good word for him, yet that still didn’t work?
  • Weren’t Matthew and Yuvan really close friends from school?
  • Finn was still arrogant earlier, but now, not even he could crack a smile.
  • If Yuvan insisted on signing with nobody else but Rebecca, they’d have no choice but to beg her.
  • Quincy’s face turned grim.
  • He had never thought that the matter would become so difficult.
  • What had Rebecca done to make Yuvan so protective of her?
  • “This little slut!”
  • Quincy laughed coldly. “She must be pretty good in bed, huh? She usually acts all pure and innocent, but that’s all just an act!”
  • If she hadn’t had an affair with Yuvan, why would he protect her so much?
  • Bullsh*t!
  • Then again, it’d be impossible for him to beg Rebecca, either.
  • He’d rather beg a dog than to beg any useless member of Willard’s family.
  • Ring!
  • Just then, Finn’s phone rang.
  • His face fell even more when he saw who was calling.
  • “It’s Grandpa.”
  • Finn was about to cry.
  • He was most afraid of getting a call from Tobias now.
  • However, he was now in charge of the project, so if anything went wrong, he’d be the first to be blamed.
  • “Answer it!” Quincy ordered.
  • Finn had no choice but to take the call.
  • The consequences of not picking up Grandpa’s call was worse.
  • “Hi, Grandpa,” Finn greeted.
  • “Finn, how’s the project with Mr. Hansen?” Tobias asked, not wanting to beat around the bush.
  • He was most concerned about the project, especially since it was very important and the Lamberts had invested a lot into it.
  • “Good. Everything is going smoothly.”
  • Finn glanced over at Quincy and saw the man hinting at him to lie. “Once Mr. Hansen has time, we can get the contract signed.”
  • “That’s good.”
  • Tobias then said, “You’d better watch this one closely. We can’t afford to lose this project. If anything goes wrong, you’re going to get it from me!”
  • He hung up.
  • Finn’s palm was all sweaty.
  • He knew all too clearly what sort of temperament his grandfather had.
  • If something happened, it wouldn’t be settled as easily as just resigning or getting a beating.
  • “Dad, what do we do?”
  • By then, Finn was on the verge of tears.
  • Rebecca is so despicable. She left me this difficult task, and I’m now in such hot water!
  • Quincy looked even worse.
  • Did the two of them really have to go back to Willard’s place and beg for mercy?
  • Earlier, they were still arrogant and couldn’t care less about Rebecca and her family. If they returned to beg her now, wouldn’t it be as good as slapping themselves in the face?
  • Quincy couldn’t stand the idea of humbling himself to this family!
  • After much deliberation, Quincy said, “Finn, you go. Plead with Rebecca. Do whatever it takes, even if it means begging or getting on your knees. We need her to get this contract signed!”
  • “Dad…”
  • “What, do you expect me to do it?”
  • Quincy roared at his son, his eyes bloodshot.
  • Finn wanted to save his pride, but Quincy was even more desperate than his son!
  • If word got out that an elder like him had to beg a younger family member, he’d be utterly disgraced.
  • Finn dared not speak up after his father had spoken so fiercely.
  • He was the one who started this mess. If he ended up hurting his father’s pride as a result of this, he’d be truly done for.
  • Finn could only clench his teeth and dejectedly made his way towards Rebecca’s house.
  • At that moment, Rebecca and her family were eating.
  • The table wasn’t very large, so everyone sat around it and ate in silence.
  • It was the first time their family had one more person at the table for a meal, and it was their new son-in-law, no less.
  • Willard never talked while eating, and Celia didn’t know what to say.
  • She didn’t like Nathan, and worse still, her daughter had to marry the useless man who probably didn’t even fancy her.
  • However, the truth remained that Nathan had stood out and spoken up for her earlier. That was something she couldn’t overlook.
  • Rebecca didn’t know what to say either.
  • On the contrary, Nathan behaved like he was in his own house, and didn’t bother with any sort of formality.
  • “Mom, you’re a really good cook. This is delicious! I can’t remember the last time I had such a good meal. Can I have another bowl of pasta?”
  • There were more vegetables than meat dishes on the table, but Nathan took large bites of everything as if they were all delicacies.
  • Watching him eat like that made Rebecca think he might have gone hungry many times as a homeless man.
  • Therefore, before Celia could react, Rebecca took Nathan’s empty bowl and refilled it.
  • “Thank you, Dear.”
  • Rebecca was holding the ladle in her hand when she heard the way he called her, and her hand immediately trembled.
  • Bang! Bang! Bang!
  • Just when it was getting awkward, there was a noise at the door again.
  • Willard looked up and was about to go back into his room when Celia glared fiercely at him, causing him to stop.
  • “Who is it!” Celia shouted out.
  • “Aunt Celia, it’s me, Finn!”
  • There was some indignation but also some helplessness in this voice.
  • Celia and Rebecca exchanged glances. What was he doing here again?
  • Was he really back to beg Rebecca just like what Nathan said?
  • Mother and daughter turned to look at Nathan, but he merely continued eating.
  • Celia walked over and opened the door. Finn immediately smiled brightly.
  • “Aunt Celia, are you guys having dinner? Is Rebecca in?”
  • Finn had put on his most charming face. He’d never smiled like that to anyone, not even to his own father.
  • After poking his head in and seeing Rebecca seated at the table, he quickly said, “Rebecca, what happened earlier was my fault, so please accept my apology. I hope you won’t take it to heart and let me off this time.”
  • Rebecca and her parents were stunned.
  • Was Finn seriously willing to beg for help?
  • “Lambert Corporation can’t do without you. You’ve not returned to work for just one day, and the office is already a complete mess!”
  • Finn bowed slightly and kept an awkward smile on. “Please come back to the office. There are so many projects waiting for you to complete.”
  • Although that was what he said, deep down, he was scolding and cursing Rebecca.
  • Once this project is settled, she and her family had better watch out!
  • “Where’s your father?”
  • Rebecca didn’t know how to respond, so once again, Nathan spoke on her behalf.
  • He was shoving food in his mouth as he glanced sideways at Finn. “Why isn’t he here?”
  • Finn was getting angry but kept a smile on his face.
  • “My father is too busy so he asked me to come over and apologize to Rebecca. I hope you can also forgive me, Nathan.”
  • Finn had really gone all out and humbled himself.
  • He had even apologized to the man who married into the family.
  • To his shock, Nathan shook his head. “This won’t do. The one who fired Rebecca is your father, so he should be the one apologizing. Otherwise, we won’t accept it.”
  • Finn nearly exploded.
  • Nathan was asking for too much!
  • “You…” Finn nearly wanted to shout at him.
  • Is this lunatic going crazy again?
  • Rebecca and her parents looked back at Nathan, afraid that he would blow this matter up.
  • Finn had already come to apologize, so they shouldn’t push this matter too far.
  • After all, it wouldn’t do them any good to offend Quincy and Finn.
  • “Dad, Mom… Rebecca is your precious daughter, so you protected her when she was bullied,” Nathan said as he swallowed the last mouthful of food. “But now that she’s my wife, I’ll protect her when she gets bullied.”
  • With that, he stood up and a murderous glint flashed in his eyes.
  • “Whoever dares to bully my wife will pay dearly for it!”
  • The terrifying murderous aura suddenly froze the air around them, and Finn couldn’t help but shudder from the intense pressure.
  • “Nathan, you’d better not go too far!”
  • Finn couldn’t stand it anymore.
  • He was even prepared to get on his knees, but since Nathan didn’t care for his apology, kneeling would be pointless.
  • “Tell your father to come here and apologize. Otherwise, you’ll have to bear all the consequences.”
  • Nathan was not polite about it at all. “Why are you still standing there? We’re done eating, and we didn’t leave any scraps for you!”
