Chapter 5 Ask Humbly

  • Back at Quincy’s House, Tobias was seated and drinking coffee.
  • As it turned out, he had dropped by to ask about that particular project.
  • The enchanting smell of sandalwood incense blew over from one side.
  • “Dad, this project with Mr. Hansen is very important to the Lamberts,” Quincy said as he made coffee.
  • “Of course. The Lamberts will soon rise one level higher,” Tobias chimed in. “So, what’s the status of it?”
  • “It’s going well. Finn has gone to get the contract signed today.”
  • Quincy went on, “You know your grandson has never disappointed you.”
  • Tobias was pleased and nodded his head.
  • After all, the men of the Lambert family had always been outstanding.
  • “Dad!”
  • Finn came running in like a storm, a scowl on his face.
  • When he saw that Tobias had turned up, he didn’t dare to say anything.
  • “We were just talking about you,” Quincy commented as he motioned at his father.
  • “Your grandfather wanted to ask how the project with Mr. Hansen is going so far. Has he signed the contract?”
  • Finn looked at Tobias and became a little nervous.
  • “T-This… Uh, project…”
  • When he saw how Finn seemed so hesitant, Quincy had a bad feeling about it and turned grim.
  • “I went to his office today, but Mr. Hansen had to attend to other matters and wasn’t around. He told me to return tomorrow to get it signed,” Finn muttered.
  • If Grandpa knew I lost the deal, it’d be the end of me!
  • “Mr. Hansen built his business from scratch, so he has always been very arrogant. Since he asked you to wait, just do as he says,” Tobias replied smilingly.
  • “Yes, Grandpa. I’ll wait like you said,” Finn forced himself to reply.
  • Quincy, however could tell that something was wrong.
  • He didn’t say a word until his father had left, after which he called Finn into the study with a dark expression on his face.
  • “What’s going on!” he shouted angrily.
  • “If you dare hide anything from me, I’ll beat you to death!”
  • “Dad!” Finn replied indignantly. “This has nothing to do with me. It’s Rebecca’s fault! Mr. Hansen said he would only sign the contract with Rebecca, and everyone else has no right to even see him. I was chased out of the office before I could do anything else!”
  • Quincy had a nasty expression on his face.
  • His son had gotten chased out?
  • “Rebecca must be having an affair with Mr. Hansen. Otherwise, why would things turn out like that?” Finn said unhappily. “Mr. Hansen also said that if the one signing with him is not Rebecca, we can forget about this project. He doesn’t care about losing it.”
  • Of course, Yuvan could choose not to care, but the Lamberts couldn’t!
  • “Do you know how much the Lamberts have invested in this project?”
  • Quincy glowered at his son, all ready to give him a tight slap. “If we lose this project, your grandfather will tear you apart before I do!”
  • Finn’s face turned ghostly pale instantly.
  • “What do we do now?” he asked anxiously.
  • He thought that he could easily claim credit for all the work he did not do, but who knew it turned out to be such a tricky situation?
  • “What do we do? Why did you have to fire Rebecca now?” Quincy scolded angrily. “We’ve lost the project and we’ll both be kicked out!”
  • Finn didn’t dare to utter a word.
  • Strictly speaking, his father was the one who had fired Rebecca, since he was the CEO.
  • “Get Rebecca back to sign this project!” Quincy shouted.
  • “Once it’s settled, we can throw her out again!”
  • “Will she be willing?” Finn asked cautiously.
  • “Call her now!”
  • Finn gulped and didn’t argue further.
  • He took out his phone and called Rebecca, but nobody picked up.
  • Rebecca didn’t want to pick up any calls from them at all.
  • “Dad, she’s not answering. What do we do?”
  • “What do we do now?” Quincy scoffed. “Looks like this young lady has some pride, huh? I suppose we’ll have to visit her and get her to come back.”
  • If it weren’t for this important project, nothing will make me want to see those three members of Willard’s family. Wait a minute… There is also that crazy son-in-law of his now, so that makes four members.
  • Now that Rebecca had lost her right to fight for the family business, Quincy did not want to bother himself with those worthless pieces of garbage.
  • Alas, he could not think too much about all of that now.
  • Quincy immediately drove Finn to Rebecca’s place.
  • Very soon, the two of them reached the old and rundown Havana Estate.
  • Quincy frowned as he looked at the area around him, walking very carefully as if he was afraid of dirtying his pants.
  • “It’s this house.”
  • Finn pointed at one of the doors.
  • It seemed like they would never come to this sort of place.
  • The Lamberts were rich, but the money was all with Tobias, and even though his children worked for the Lambert Corporation, they only received monthly salaries and annual bonuses.
  • After Willard became paralyzed, he was unable to work anymore, so he wasn’t able to support his family. He only had a house to live in because Tobias pitied him.
  • Bang! Bang! Bang!
  • Finn banged hard on the door.
  • Celia’s voice promptly rang out. “Coming! Must you keep banging on the door?”
  • Upon opening the door and seeing Quincy and Finn, she froze for a while.
  • After her initial shock, her face immediately fell.
  • “What are you doing here?”
  • “We’re looking for Rebecca,” Quincy replied calmly as he pushed the door and strode in. “Where is she?”
  • “She’s not in! What do you want with her?” Celia snapped.
  • “Rebecca!”
  • Quincy could not be bothered with Celia and started shouting. “Your uncle is here. Are you not coming out to greet me?”
  • Of course, Rebecca could hear him from her room. She never expected them to show up at her place, though.
  • For many years, even after Willard was paralyzed, Quincy had never dropped by. What was the purpose of his visit today, then?
  • “Come on. Let’s go.”
  • Nathan pulled Rebecca’s hand and dragged her out.
  • Quincy started chuckling when he saw Rebecca.
  • “Rebecca, are you still angry with me?”
  • To that, Rebecca did not respond.
  • “About the company firing you, that was just a misunderstanding,” Quincy said, though his expression stated otherwise. “But the company needs you back to sign that contract with Mr. Hansen. If you still want to leave the company, you can leave after the contract is signed.”
  • Rebecca felt her body shaking violently from rage when she heard that.
  • When they didn’t need me, they fired me without any rhyme or reason, but now that they need me, they want me back immediately. What do they take me for? A tool that they can dispose of after it has been used?
  • Celia also understood what was going on.
  • Quincy and his son had fired Rebecca, yet she was kept in the dark.
  • “Quincy, what is the meaning of this? What do you take Rebecca for? What do you take our family for?”
  • She was furious.
  • “Aunt Celia, your family has barely any worth,” Finn remarked disdainfully. “We are here only because Rebecca is still of some value. Otherwise, I would never bother coming to such a rundown house like yours.”
  • “You…”
  • Celia’s face was filled with rage and she lifted a hand to slap Finn.
  • “Hit if you dare, you old hag! Do you have the guts to hit a member of the Lambert family?” Quincy shouted threateningly,
  • Celia bit her lips. Did he just call me an old hag? What an insult!
  • Slap!
  • Suddenly, the sound of a loud slap filled the air.
  • Finn held his face in disbelief. Nathan had hit him again!
  • “Who gave you the guts to insult my mother-in-law like that?”
  • Nathan took a step forward and added calmly, “If you need to ask for a favor, you should ask humbly and nicely. Did your father not teach you that?”
