Chapter 6 The Conditions Will Be Different
- “You!”
- Finn was furious, but he dared not retaliate.
- After all, Nathan was the madman who had broken his hand! He knew better than to provoke a lunatic.
- Quincy frowned. He didn’t think that the husband he had found for Rebecca was crazy enough to hit Finn right in front of him.
- “I haven’t settled the previous matter with you!”
- Quincy narrowed his eyes condescendingly.
- However, the moment he peered into Nathan’s eyes, he felt like he had fallen thousands of feet into an abyss.
- His legs couldn’t help but tremble a little.
- It was as if he was looking at a terrifying beast waiting to devour him whole.
- What a scary look!
- “You wish to settle the matter with me?” Nathan said calmly. “Looks like you guys aren’t here to invite Rebecca back to the company. You are here to make a scene.”
- Quincy immediately calmed himself down after hearing this and suppressed the anger rising in his heart.
- He was not going to disrupt what he had to do because of a lunatic.
- After the contract was signed, he’d make Willard’s family pay for their actions!
- “Hmph! Lambert Corporation needs you, Rebecca. Come back,” Quincy said as he looked at Rebecca, but there wasn’t a single bit of sincerity in his voice.
- Rebecca didn’t know what to do.
- Even Celia was stunned.
- She had never thought that the day would come when Quincy would come personally to invite Rebecca to work.
- However, their attitude from before was simply too infuriating!
- “You don’t seem to get it, huh?”
- Since Rebecca didn’t know what to say, Nathan spoke up for her.
- “I’ll remind you one last time. When you ask for a favor, you have to be humble. If your attitude is not good enough today, you’ll have to come back tomorrow. My conditions will not always stay the same, though.”
- Quincy’s expression finally changed.
- His eyelid twitched as he looked coldly at Nathan.
- “Do you think we can’t get this project signed without Rebecca?”
- “Go ahead and try if you don’t believe me.”
- Nathan was as calm as a cucumber, so calm that even Celia and Rebecca were stunned as they watched him.
- Was that man really the homeless son-in-law that just married into the family?
- “Rebecca, my father is giving you a chance. You had better cherish it!” Finn said angrily.
- Rebecca puffed her chest out and said with determination, “I don’t care for it!”
- “Well done!” Quincy scoffed as he stared at the people before him with a fake smile.
- Then, he looked toward the inside of the house and shouted, “Willard, what a good job you’ve done as the head of this family!”
- With that, he snorted and left with Finn.
- The door of the room finally opened at that point. Willard rolled his wheelchair out, his face all pale.
- He didn’t dare to show himself as long as Quincy was in the house.
- “Is my brother angry?” Willard asked timidly. “What are we going to do?”
- Celia looked at him and bristled with anger.
- Where was he when his daughter was being bullied?
- Instead of helping, he was now asking them what they should do!
- “It’s just a job, I don’t care for it.”
- Rebecca turned to her parents. “Dad, Mom, don’t worry. I can earn enough to take care of you.”
- Celia looked at her daughter, her heart aching.
- The responsibility of taking care of the household had once again fallen on Rebecca’s shoulders.
- She had to take care of Willard, and even if she wanted to help Rebecca, there was nothing much she could do.
- Just then, Nathan spoke up. “There’s still me. I’ll take care of both of you, too.”
- Willard and Celia turned to look at Nathan.
- Nathan had slapped Finn earlier because he had insulted Celia, and Celia appreciated that. Even though she still didn’t like Nathan much, there was nothing she could say at that moment.
- “I’ll go cook.”
- With that, Celia turned and went into the kitchen.
- Willard didn’t know what to say either, so he went back into his room and closed the door.
- Rebecca dragged Nathan back into her room, still stunned by what happened.
- “What… What did you just say?”
- “I said I’ll take care of Mom and Dad with you.”
- “What?”
- Rebecca stared in shock at Nathan.
- She was still unable to accept him as her husband.
- She was even thinking about when she should make it clear to Nathan that they couldn’t be together.
- It wasn’t just about Nathan’s background. It was also the fact that he was ten years older than her.
- “Mr. Nathan…”
- Rebecca hesitated.
- “You should get ready and prepare yourself to sign that contract anytime now.”
- When she heard Nathan’s words, Rebecca suddenly forgot what she had meant to say.
- “Are you saying Uncle Quincy will look for me again?”
- She was the one who had discussed the project in its entirety with Yuvan, but all the details had already been agreed on, and they were only left with the formality of signing the contract.
- Anybody could go and get it signed, so why did it need to be her?
- Besides, Quincy and Finn had many connections in Derport, so it’d be easy for them to find someone to pull some strings.
- “Yes. It has to be you,” Nathan said matter-of-factly.
- ……
- When Quincy and Finn arrived home, the latter immediately smashed all the cups on the table.
- Crash!
- “What the hell is this?” he roared. “Dad, why did you stop me? I’m going to kill that lunatic!”
- He had been slapped twice in a row by Nathan. How was he going to hold his head high in Derport if word got out?
- Others would laugh at him for getting hit by a lunatic.
- “Don’t provoke these mentally ill people. Who knows what crazy things they might do?” Quincy scoffed.
- He never thought that in choosing the most useless man to be Rebecca’s husband, he had chosen a complete nut job.
- He didn’t want to provoke such people unless he had no choice.
- Then again, why was Nathan’s gaze so terrifying? Quincy had been in business for many years, but even he had cowered at the sight.
- Well, Nathan is insane, so that’s probably why I felt fearful of him.
- “What now, Dad? Does Rebecca that b*tch expect us to beg her? She can dream on!” Finn bellowed.
- He didn’t believe that they could not close the project without Rebecca.
- Quincy narrowed his eyes, then made a few phone calls.
- “I’ll have to trouble you then. Yes, I’ll buy you dinner someday!”
- Before long, Quincy had found someone who knew Yuvan to help pull some strings.
- All the details of the project were already more or less settled, and signing the contract was merely a formality. He doubted that Yuvan would give up such a lucrative deal for a lowly woman like Rebecca.
- “Don’t worry. Mr. Matthew works with Mr. Hansen often, so it shouldn’t be a problem.”
- There was a price to pay for using their connections, but it was better than having to beg Rebecca.
- Finn was relieved after hearing this.
- “Dad, once this project is good to go, I want to throw Rebecca and her family out of Derport!”
- A wicked idea flashed in Finn’s eyes. “If she weren’t my cousin, I’d even want to…”
- “Finn, don’t go too far. If your grandfather finds out about this, you’ll be dead meat,” Quincy interrupted.
- Finn instantly calmed down.
- After all, it was only a fleeting thought. Rebecca was pretty, but he could also easily get his hands on many others.
- Ring!
- The both of them were talking when Quincy’s phone started ringing.
- He picked up the phone and immediately recognized Yuvan’s number. From the looks of it, the matter had been settled.
- “Mr. Matthew, how was it? I’m sure it is a piece of cake to you…”
- “Quincy, how are you still so relaxed? You offended Mr. Hansen and you sent me to take the brunt of his anger? Now, my project with him has fallen through! D*mn you! You set this trap for me on purpose, didn’t you? I won’t forget this!”
- After Matthew finished his tirade, he hung up immediately.
- Quincy froze.
- What was that about?
- Matthew putting in good words for him didn’t work, and on top of that, Matthew’s project was ruined.
- What was Yuvan trying to do?
- Finn swallowed hard. “Dad, do we… Do we really have to beg Rebecca?”
