Chapter 13 I Bought It
- Rebecca ran to the cashier area, and there was already the sound of the cash register printing the bill out!
- “Miss, the total price is four hundred and eighty-seven thousand. I’ll register the car for you, and you’ll also be getting a free decal and fuel card.”
- The salesgirl was extremely excited. She didn’t expect to make a sale so soon after starting work at the car dealership.
- The commission on a BMW wasn’t small either.
- She used both hands to return the receipt and card to Rebecca, and her voice trembled a little. “This is your card and receipt. I’ll get a temporary license plate for the car first, and once the registration is completed, I’ll install the proper license plate for you.”
- Rebecca was stunned.
- She didn’t expect the salesgirl to process everything so quickly. More importantly, she couldn’t believe that Nathan’s card had so much money in it!
- The car was nearly half a million, and he spent it just like that?
- She had worked so hard for the last two years, and there was barely fifty thousand in her savings. Nathan was just a homeless guy, so where did he get that much money from?
- Rebecca walked over to Nathan, her eyes staring at him like he was a monster.
- She still couldn’t believe that they had already bought the car.
- In fact, it wasn’t just her. Even those sales assistants in the corner felt their stomachs churn. They were the ones who first spotted Nathan walking in, but no one bothered to attend to them and ended up giving this golden opportunity to a newcomer.
- “He seriously bought it?”
- One of them couldn’t help but ask the newcomer.
- “He did! He’s so cool!” The salesgirl couldn’t hide her excitement. “I’ve seen the logo on that card before. It’s a very special card, and you need to have a minimum amount in your account to get it!”
- Hmm… Was it a hundred million or one billion?
- All the sales assistants within earshot swallowed hard and wanted to slap themselves. They had lost out on a golden opportunity!
- The salesgirl didn’t care about them. The commission from the sale was enough to keep her happy for half a year. With that, she quickly went to get the car and its temporary license ready.
- Meanwhile, Rebecca was pouting. The more she looked at Nathan, the less she understood him.
- “How many things are you hiding from me?”
- “Not many. I’ll tell you in the future.”
- Nathan shrugged. All he did was buy a car worth a few hundred thousand. Did Rebecca have to look at him like that?
- “Hop in and have a feel.”
- He opened the car door and urged Rebecca to get into the car.
- As she sat on the plush car seat, Rebecca felt like she was in a dream. It was so unreal.
- “Sir, I’ve processed the temporary license plate. It will take another two days to get the actual plate done, and you can drop by the dealership to get it installed. If you need anything else, you can contact me anytime.”
- The salesgirl bowed and politely placed her name card on a very conspicuous part of the car.
- “Can we go now?” Nathan asked.
- “Yes.”
- “Wait. What about my scooter?” Rebecca suddenly thought of the scooter that had been her companion for the last two years.
- “Leave it.”
- Nathan didn’t bother saying anything else and got into the driver’s seat, turned on the engine and left.
- The salesgirl watched them leave while still feeling flushed. This was the first time she’d seen someone this rich.
- He bought a BMW as though he was buying groceries!
- That calm and carefree look on Nathan’s face especially captivated her. It gave off a unique sort of middle-aged manly charm, and she was completely mesmerized.
- The other sales assistants were filled with regret, but there was nothing they could do but blame themselves for being snobs. One thing was for sure—they were terrible at judging people!
- Nathan was driving while Rebecca sat in the front passenger seat. She couldn’t help but stretch out her hands to touch the leather interior of the car. She looked at the beautiful dashboard and wondered how she was going to explain this to her parents.
- She rode a scooter out, and it somehow turned into a BMW when she came back?
- “Nathan, you aren’t an ordinary person, are you?”
- No matter how naïve Rebecca was, she knew no ordinary man on the street would be able to simply spend half a million on a car like that.
- “Why do you have so much money? If you have so much money, why did you apply to marry into the Lamberts and be laughed at by everyone?”
- She had a thousand and one questions.
- “Have you heard of Vagabond Sect from those mafia crime novels? My sect is pretty rich,” Nathan answered plainly.
- Rebecca took a while to react and suddenly realized that Nathan was teasing her.
- “Can you be serious?”
- “The doctor said my body is weak and I can’t take care of myself. I’ll have to rely on a woman to feed and clothe me, so I came looking for you,” Nathan said while smiling.
- Rebecca gave up asking. She knew the man wasn’t going to tell her the truth. It had only been two days, yet Nathan had given her shock after shock, each one bigger than the last.
- She found it hard to believe what was happening. Nathan was supposed to be a homeless man who married into her family and relied on her family for his daily needs.
- But why did he have to humble himself like that?
- Havana Estate was where Rebecca and her family had lived for the past ten years. Since Willard got paralyzed in that car accident, they had moved there.
- Celia was pushing the wheelchair along and taking a nice walk with Willard.
- Both of them seemed worried about something, but neither said a word.
- “Celia, you’re out for a walk again.”
- One of the neighbors called out to Celia from afar. “I heard Rebecca got married, and your son-in-law lives with you.”
- There was something in her tone of voice that made Celia feel uncomfortable.
- She squeezed a smile out but chose not to answer her.
- Having a man marry into the family was nothing to be proud of, and after merely two days, the entire neighborhood had already known about it. How embarrassing!
- “Let’s go home” Willard said with a sigh.
- “You’re going back already? It’s not time to cook yet. You should spend a little more time in the sun,” the neighbor replied as she turned walked toward them. “Tsk. I can’t believe you held a wedding and didn’t invite any of your neighbors. What does your son-in-law look like? What sort of qualifications does he have? I bet he’s really rich, huh?”
- Willard’s family was part of the prestigious Lambert family, so even if he wasn’t as rich as Quincy, surely he couldn’t be that worse off.
- A scowl gradually appeared on Celia’s face. “What has that got to do with you?”
- The neighbor immediately frowned when she heard this.
- “What are you angry about? You found someone to marry into the family, and I can’t even ask?”
- Of course, she already knew all about it before asking.
- How could people in their tiny estate not know about such a huge breaking news?
- Rebecca was a pretty young lady, yet they found someone to marry into her family. Worst of all, they had even heard that he was a homeless person and ten years older than her!
- What sort of poor taste did the Lambert family have? Why did they choose a man like that?
- “You…”
- Celia started getting angry and her face was turning red.
- “I didn’t really want to say this, but you’re her parents. Why didn’t you find a better match for Rebecca? Didn’t I introduce a nice man to her previously? He works for the government, and has a stable nine to five job. I was so kind to introduce him to you, but you didn’t want him. I even got scolded by his family. Are you regretting it now?” the neighbor taunted, determined to agitate Celia.
- Celia was so angry she started shaking. She turned to leave because she didn’t want to waste her time with the irritating neighbor anymore.
- “You two ought to chase away that son-in-law soon. Do that, and I’ll introduce someone else to you. Deal?”
- Alas, the neighbor was still persistent, and even had a gleeful smile on her face.
- Beep! Beep!
- Suddenly, a brand new BMW drove through the main gate of the estate and stopped right in front of the neighbor. The bright white paint under the sunlight nearly blinded her.
- Before she could react, Rebecca and Nathan alighted from the car.
- “Mom!”
- Rebecca called out.
- The neighbor was stunned.
- “T-This is your car?”
- Her face was filled with disbelief.
- She had seen the car before. When one of her relatives got married, they gave the car as part of her dowry, and she heard it was half a million! She hadn’t forgotten that gloating face on her relative’s face!
- Rebecca looked at Nathan, and didn’t know how to respond. This car was bought by Nathan, so technically, it wasn’t hers.
- “I bought it for her,” Nathan answered.
- The neighbor’s face started turning pale. Nathan bought it? How did someone who married into the family have so much money?
- “Nathan bought it. He said I’ll catch a cold from riding a scooter to work in the morning.”
- Rebecca’s face was red and said that awkwardly.
- In that instant, the neighbor started to feel jealousy rising in her heart. He’s worried that she’d catch a cold from riding a scooter to work in the morning? That’s still not a reason to buy a luxury car worth half a million!
