Chapter 12 Gone Crazy Again
- Yuvan was well known for having a fiery temper. He certainly hadn’t relied on being merciful to get to where he was in five years!
- He snorted and didn’t say anymore. Then he turned and left.
- The aforementioned director was frozen in place, his face red and he didn’t know what to do.
- He had only said a few sarcastic words to Rebecca. Why did Yuvan have to be that angry?
- “Mr. Lambert…”
- He looked pitifully at Quincy.
- “Put your resignation letter on my table tomorrow.”
- Quincy was also helpless here. The director was one of his employees, so what right did Yuvan have to fire him?
- However, the project had just been signed and there were still too many unknowns in the whole matter, so he didn’t dare to anger Yuvan either.
- The director felt his heart drop when he heard what Quincy said.
- Everyone else within earshot trembled even more violently.
- The couldn’t believe that the man has gotten fired on the spot because of a few sarcastic words to Rebecca.
- He was a director of Lambert Corporation, for goodness’ sake.
- It was obvious from the look of it that Yuvan was standing up for Rebecca, but the bigger question was, how were the two of them connected?
- “What are all of you standing here for? Shouldn’t you get back to work?”
- Finn shouted and all the employees quickly went back to their seats.
- He walked over to Quincy and frowned. “Dad, what’s going on between Rebecca and Yuvan?”
- They were definitely not lovers as they had initially guessed. Judging from Yuvan’s attitude, he treated her with great respect, and there was even some fear involved.
- But how could that be?
- Yuvan was a man who could command both the legal world and underworld, and even the Lambert family had to be extra polite to him.
- What had Rebecca done to make Yuvan treat her so politely?
- “Get to the bottom of this!”
- Quincy had a cold expression on his face as he shouted those words.
- The sudden turn of events had completely upset his plans.
- If Rebecca and Yuvan were in some sort of relationship, then he really couldn’t afford to mess with her.
- “Got it!”
- Finn immediately left.
- Inside the office, Rebecca finally managed to snap back to reality.
- She walked to where Nathan was, both hands behind her back, looking seriously at Nathan as though she was inspecting a little pet in the cage.
- “What is going on?”
- Rebecca wrinkled her nose at him. “Don’t say this has nothing to do with you. I won’t believe it.”
- Nathan opened his half-closed eyes and said calmly. “I’ll admit it. This has something to do with me.”
- I knew it! There’s no other reason why Nathan was so certain that nobody else but her would be able to sign this contract, or that Quincy and Finn would humble themselves and beg her to come back to work. Everything was obviously arranged by him. But… He’s just a homeless man. How could he have known Yuvan?
- She thought about how she saw Yuvan standing reverently before Nathan when she opened the door earlier.
- “I know Yuvan.”
- He saw Rebecca staring at him, waiting for him to explain himself. Nathan laughed. “Before he struck it rich, he was homeless too. Once, he almost died from hunger and I gave half of my bread to him. That’s why he owes me one, and it’s time for him to return the favor.”
- Rebecca scoffed.
- “Do you think I’ll believe that?”
- She bit her lips. This was beyond her imagination. Nathan was treating her like a child by telling her a stupid story.
- “Do you believe that those who perform acts of kindness will be rewarded?” Nathan asked seriously.
- Rebecca thought for a bit, then said, “Are you trying to say that you’re a good person?”
- “No. You’re a good person.”
- Nathan got up. “That’s why you’ll be rewarded.”
- Nathan would never forget that sweet for the rest of his life.
- He had been in countless dangerous situations, sometimes even on the brink of death, but that sweet wrapper he carried with him all the time gave him hope and strength.
- “All right. Don’t think so much. What matters is that everything is settled,” Nathan continued.
- “Let’s go. You’re done with work.”
- “What? We just got here.”
- Nathan ignored her words and dragged her out of the office.
- He continued to pull her all the way out of the building, and everyone they saw along the way kept their distance, clearly too afraid to go near them.
- Rebecca could feel that they seemed afraid of her.
- Nathan wasn’t bothered at all.
- He rode the scooter and brought Rebecca to a car dealership.
- “This isn’t the way home. Are you going to sell me away?”
- Rebecca was seated at the back, and her voice was nearly muffled by the wind.
- Given her looks, she could probably fetch quite a good price.
- Nathan ignored her and stopped the scooter right in front of the BMW dealership.
- “Why did you come here?”
- Rebecca looked at that distinct logo and was taken aback. “We’re not buying a car.”
- How could she when she didn’t have the money for it?
- “Who says we’re not buying?”
- Nathan dragged her right into the store.
- Rebecca was instantly attracted to all the new models that were on display the moment they walked through the door.
- They were so pretty!
- It wasn’t as if she hadn’t thought about buying a car, especially in this unbearably cold weather. However, she could only look at some of the cheaper brands, and even so, she still worried about whether she could afford such a luxury.
- Now, Nathan had brought her to a BMW dealership, and she didn’t even dare to touch the cars!
- The sales assistants saw Nathan and Rebecca from afar, but after looking them up and down, no one bothered to move from their seats.
- “Miss, are you interested in buying a car?” a new salesgirl asked when she saw that none of her coworkers bothered with the customers.
- Meanwhile, the other sales assistants secretly laughed at how the greenhorn was so poor at judging people and gently shook their heads. A look of disdain flashed across their poker faces.
- They were excellent at observing people. One look at Rebecca’s expression, and they knew the couple had no money.
- Those with money would look way more confident.
- As such, they couldn’t be bothered to attend to Rebecca and Nathan. Other than the newcomer, who else would be so driven and waste time on people who were only window shopping?
- “Of course.”
- Rebecca was embarrassed and didn’t know how to answer the salesgirl, so Nathan spoke on her behalf. “Why would we be here if we weren’t getting a car?”
- Then he looked at Rebecca. “Which one do you like?”
- “What?”
- Rebecca looked at Nathan and wondered if his mental illness was acting up again.
- What did he mean by which one did she like?
- She liked all of them, but she couldn’t afford any.
- “Nathan, let’s go back.”
- Rebecca started to go red in the face, especially when she could hear some laughter among the sales assistants from afar, and she started feeling very uncomfortable.
- “Why don’t you recommend one for her?”
- Nathan didn’t bother with Rebecca and asked the salesgirl.
- “This is the 5 Series, the latest model this year. The horsepower specifications are all sufficient for her needs. Also, I feel that her demeanor is very compatible with this model.”
- The salesgirl was obviously new, and didn’t use a lot of sales talk.
- Nathan turned to look at Rebecca and saw that her gaze had fallen on this model, so he nodded.
- “We’re taking it then.”
- “What?”
- The response was from both Rebecca and the salesgirl at the same time.
- The other sales assistants in the shop also turned around. What was going on?
- They had only come in for less than five minutes, and they had already decided to buy a car? The man had to be joking.
- Shouldn’t he ask about the price or request a test drive? Surely, he had to weigh the consequences of showing off in front of a girl, hadn’t he?
- “Sir, since this is a new model, we don’t have any discounts for it at the moment,” the salesgirl kindly reminded.
- “No problem.”
- Nathan pulled out a card from his pocket. “The code is 666666. Help me settle the number plate as well and consolidate everything in a single bill.”
- The salesgirl took a while to snap back to reality. Then she took the card with both hands and excitedly ran to process the transaction.
- “Nathan, stop it. This car is very expensive. You don’t have this sort of money.”
- Rebecca started getting worried.
- He was just a homeless man and it was good enough that he’d survived so long. Where would he find the money to buy such an expensive car?
- It’d cost nearly half a million for the car itself!
- Oh ,dear. This guy’s mental illness must be acting up again. Either he beats someone up or does something crazy. He must be in one of those delusions again.
- Rebecca anxiously looked over at where the salesgirl had run off to. If the card got rejected, that would be terribly embarrassing!
