Valarie walked towards the car, holding Lily's hand; she couldn't help but notice Dominic sitting in another car, his eyes fixed on some point in front of him. She knew that look, that posture, and she could sense the anger emanating from him. She felt a pang of guilt for accusing him of hurting Lily, and she knew that he was not going to forgive her easily.
As she reached the car, Lily suddenly pulled her hand free from Valarie's grip. "I want to sit with Dominic," she said, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "I feel safe with him."
Valarie's eyes widened in surprise, and she felt a sting from Lily's words. Just a few minutes ago, she had accused Dominic of being a monster, of being capable of hurting Lily. But now, Lily was saying that she felt safe with him. Valarie's mind was reeling with conflicting emotions, and she didn't know what to do.
