Chapter 27

• Valerie was completely bewildered by the sudden display of care and concern from Dominic's men. They were all gathered around her, offering her food and drinks and even feeding her sometimes. Valerie was touched by their kindness, but at the same time, she was also confused. She had never seen this side of them before.
• Kael, the burly and imposing figure, held out a plate of sandwiches. "Valerie, you need to eat more; you're eating for two now," he said, his deep voice filled with a gentle concern.
• Valerie smiled and took a bite of the sandwich, even though she was already full. She didn't want to hurt Kael's feelings, and besides, it was nice to feel cared for.
