- "I have another meeting tomorrow," I said to my client, leaning back in the plush chair of the private office we'd reserved. He smiled, watching me with that same considering look I was getting accustomed to. It was a look that said he saw value in me-more than I'd ever felt from Ethan.
- Busy is good," he said, his tone silky and confident. "Especially when it pays well.
- I nodded, letting a small smile play. Busy was damned good. For the first time in my life, I was making the moves and setting the terms. There were no more late nights wondering where Ethan was, or how far he'd strayed. No more biting my tongue when Mia flashed that smug little smile. Every dollar I earned, every boundary I pushed, was on my own merit. And damn, it felt good.
