- "How does it feel to finally be in control?" My client's voice cut like silk, smooth and even, in the darkened room. I leaned back in the leather chair. It felt plush against me, and with my glass of champagne, it was almost too much luxury, yet somehow it fit.
- "Better than I expected," I said, sipping the bubbly liquid. The taste was crisp-a sharp contrast to the bitter that had filled my life with Ethan. In this new role, I was finally free-unencumbered with expectations or emotional ties. I had control, and that was something Ethan could never offer.
- "Good," he said, smiling. "You're doing well, Jasmine. Better than most would under these circumstances."
