Chapter 16 ~ Run You Fool Run! ~
- ~ Run You Fool ... RUN! ~
- Roughly pushing the door open, "This is going to be easier than I thought!"
- The room was dim as the sun was nearing the end of the day's cycle. Unlike before, the room smelled like a combination of musk and death. Pushing the air out of her lungs harshly, Rosa entered her assigned chamber. "One night, that is all it is going to take to have Travis on his knees. Once that happens, I will be gone!"
- With controlled speed, she hovered over the bed and stopped. Glancing around the room, she half expected someone to be in the corners, lurking from the shadows.
- 'Someone has been sitting on the bed!' Her hands smoothed out the wrinkles that had appeared during the time of her absence.
- Bending over, she pulled out her laptop, "I should have set this up before leaving the room!" Mentally, she was hitting herself in the head.
- Rosa settled the laptop on the nightstand. When she opened it, all the files were closed. She tried to figure out what was going on. "I swear the writing program was left open!" She could not remember with full conviction. She was distracted by the spiritual activity around her, and her memory was a bit foggy.
- Pushing the thought to the side, Rosa gently swiped her finger on the touchpad. Her intentions were to get the recorder up and ready. A practice she had made as a norm for her regular routine of living.
- After setting everything up, Rosa hid the file so that no one would see what she was doing. Positioning the camera for the best view of the mirror, she allowed things to run as they were. Pulling out her suitcase, she began to rummage about. Her hand landed on a weathered old envelope. Picking it up, she read the message her grandmother had left her.
- 'Mimi I miss you so much! Just as much as I miss mom and dad!' A tear rolled down Rosa's cheek.
- Reading the last sentence, 'Remember, never tell anyone about our secret!’ Rosa folded the letter neatly and placed it back in the envelope. Her bottom lip quivered as she returned it to the secret compartment of the suitcase. Grabbing the charging cord, Rosa was getting ready to make sure the laptop had a power source.
- Rosa turned her head, her focus shifting to the glowing screen before her. "Oh ... Kay!" She rapidly moved her head back and forth. Yet her eyes could not pick up what was there.
- With a click of the button, she paused the recording. Rosa rewound the recording to the beginning. Pressing the play icon, the recording played back what she had not picked up. The first bit was only Rosa looking through her suitcase. Then, the footage became static.
- Rosa moved her face closer to the screen, trying to understand what she was seeing. Yet she could not. It was as if the lenses had been blocked out.
- Rosa listened to an eerie buzz from the speaker. When the buzz subsided, she could tell that shadows were dancing along the walls, shifting from side to side as if alive.
- She whispered as she plugged one of the cords into her laptop, "The contestants are not going to be disappointed."
- There was no visual, but a mysterious female voice echoed through, "Three of the siblings are here; soon, the others will arrive." It was a warning. As if it were a countdown of some sort.
- "The seven!?" Rosa could only assume the spirit was trying to warn her about the seven. "Who are the seven?"
- Booming from the speaker, a male voice urged, "Run!" He held on to the 'N' for a few seconds.
- Grinding her teeth, Rosa covered her ears. The pitch was louder than it should have been. Slamming down on the pad, she paused the recording.
- "WHAT THE FUCK!" Rosa hissed as her ears continued to ring.
- Gazing into the stilled recording. A chilling set of eyes glared back at her. The smell of burnt flesh entered her nose with each intake of air.
- 'Son of a bitch! This isn't happening! Not today and the days to follow!' Rosa harshly groaned, closing her eyes, hoping that what she thought was not a thought at all and everything was just in her mind. 'Poltergeist! Worse than the regular everyday spirit!' She groaned softly. 'I hate dealing with poltergeust!' Rosa whined in her head.
- The sound of someone's rasp came from behind her. The silhouette had moved, causing Rosa to turn around sharply. A shadowy figure of a man loomed in front of her.
- He placed his hands on her shoulders and began shaking her, shouting, “RUN, YOU FOOL, RUN!”
- As quickly as the event started, it had been over. The door slammed shut. The sound of cackling brought Rosa's attention to a female sitting on her bed, "You are going to die before the sun rises!" She giggled as she rushed toward the mirror.
- Rosa's attention was taken everywhere in the chamber. Her senses had been overwhelmed. Never in her existence had she seen so much activity.
- A distant voice echoed through the shadows, “They are coming!” Multiple voices repeated it several times.
- Then, a different voice sneered, “It’s too late! The seven are here!” He hissed in her ear.
- "Why are there so many of you here?" Rosa could not imagine why there would be so many spirits in one location. 'Maybe this mansion is near a cemetery or graveyard!' Rosa tried to rationalize as she carefully listened for a reply.
- Shaking her head several times, Rosa set up her laptop, making sure that everything was correctly positioned and ready to record while she was gone. Getting to her feet, she reached the door. With her fingers wrapped around the handle, she turned the nob. "What the hell?" She muttered under her breath.
- A faint, ghostly voice whispered, “Hide!” The little girl looked back at the mirror, "he is here!" Motioning her head back and forth, she said, "And he doesn't like intruders!" The spirit child looked at odds.
- Rosa studied the room. Gazing at the ghostly figures. Their difference in clothing style told her that they had all died at different periods. All of them ranged in age; the oldest appeared as if he had died in his late 70s, while the youngest could not have been much older than 10 years of age. “I will be fine!” Rosa responded.
- "Don't say we didn't warn you!" The elderly man turned to mist with the others soon to follow.
