• I stare down at my phone as fear slowly consumes me. What did he mean by that? How is he going to show me what he is capable of? Don’t I already know? I’m his daughter, and I’ve seen all his hideous sides, especially the ones he doesn’t let anyone else see.
• I glance across the room at Julie and Ted, silently begging for them to tell me my fears are unwarranted. But instead of being met with a reassuring look telling me I’m wrong, I find an apologetic gaze mixed with concern and worry.
