Chapter 6

  • It wasn't long until Ernest had to get out of bed and face the fact that he'd received an urgent message on his phone. With the exception of a searing headache, he was in good health, but despite his protests, they had kept him under watch. In the end, even after reading the text message three times, it was still confusing, so he dialed the number and laughed when his guardian angel answered.
  • When Angel called, he answered with a kind "hello" on his phone.
  • At this hour of the night, why aren't you in the hospital and asleep? She inquired because she was concerned that he hadn't sought medical attention after he left her residence.
  • "It's funny how your phone woke you up. I need a lovely sleepy time tone like yours," said the man, laughing. The statement I've just received, which I believe to be an apology for an upcoming event or a possible future event , has left me even more baffled than how an experienced pilot like myself managed to crash my jet.
  • As she taunted him, she recalled the blue of his eyes and the way they crinkled at the corners when he smiled.
  • It was you, he said , "who were at fault for the crash, rushing out in the storm flashing that torch around while I was attempting to land," giggling. You're welcome, and thank you for preserving my reputation.
  • "Please, don't bother me! Trying to save you, uh, you huge aircraft crasher! You, big plane crasher! You, big plane crasher! "You big plane crasher! " She shouted angrily, causing him to burst out laughing.
  • After a brief pause, his voice grew graver as he said, "You saved me, Amanda." In the words of the physicians, "You did everything perfectly, even tormenting me with the torch and all those questions."
  • It was barely an hour or two that she was in town, so she apologized for her earlier mocking.
  • So, let me get this straight: "So, what precisely is this message all about, and what should I expect?" He was curious. There is a team of attorneys ready to sue any media that implicates you in any controversy linked with what happened, and I have a very thick skin these days. "
  • "Something terrible is about to happen to my step-monster. Sorry, but it was too late for me to inform my brother what had happened before Elena would find out and possibly go after you, your family, and the money you have at your disposal. Because he's my insurance broker, he'd have found out anyhow, but I was so enraged at the people you sent for causing further damage that things spiraled out of hand. Step-monster has learned and will contact you and your legal team now. " She took a deep breath after expressing her concerns in such detail.
  • It was Ernest's turn to grimace into the phone. "Okay, let's just slow this down," he said. Elena, right? " He stopped, "the step-monster,"
  • That's correct, she said.
  • "After learning of my accident on your property, she's going to demand payment for the damage I did, right?" he said, surprised.
  • She was correct. As she said it a second time,
  • "Amanda, I already promised to make good on my word and cover your losses." If you don't mind, I'll take care of it, "he added in a measured tone. It was my fault, so I'm the one who should apologize.
  • When Amanda said, " You don't get it," he didn't even know she was there. "Elena Dorian is the Step-Monster." Then she proceeded, paused to hear whether he'd heard of her before speaking. "She's a disgrace. Every time she goes after a high-profile person, she feeds the media with rumors and falsehoods, making trials highly public even before they reach the courts. "
  • "So you're going to sue me?" he asked, with no ill will. In spite of the fact that I had said that I would cover any losses. "
  • "No," she yelled back, denying the allegations. Since my broker , Alecks, is my stepbrother's kid via my mother's second marriage, I contacted him to ask for help.
  • As he replied with ease, "I wouldn't fight it" if your insurance company wanted to recoup the costs. The only reason Elena would approach me with a settlement proposal is if you decided to file a lawsuit against her.
  • "So simple, isn't it? You have no idea what it's like to be Elena. There is something wrong with your comprehension, my friend. " Amanda's words failed terribly. When Elena phoned earlier, she didn't even inquire about her well-being. Just a few minutes before, she had told her to email her images of the damage to her.
  • "It's a little irritating that I crashed in a storm, but people are attempting to sue my family for everything." We have an army of attorneys ready to take on the Elenas of the world, and the prospect of negative press never phased me. Which, as you may be aware, "it was only a half-hearted laugh from him."
  • "There's a lot of wonderful publicity about you and your family out there, too," she whispered to herself. Amanda was relieved that he couldn't see her getting a little flushed at the thought. She'd caved in to curiosity and done a quick internet search on the attractive stranger who'd just walked into her life.
  • What did you find? She blushed even more when he said how happy he sounded.
  • She apologized once more, this time emphasizing her sincerity. I'll attempt to persuade Elena to leave everything in the hands of the insurance company. Basically, I simply wanted to let you know what may be on the way. I realize it was an accident, and I wouldn't have contacted Alecks until I was sure you had healed sufficiently if I weren't so dependent on this year's harvest to keep the bank pleased and keep Elena out of my business. To that end, I'd advise you to get some shut-eye instead of listening to me go on and on about how bad my family is. I appreciate your patience and kindness. "
  • "Amanda, thank you very much for saving my life." In all honesty, you have nothing to apologise for. Your debt is mine, and I'll make sure you have enough money in order to pay back your creditors and keep your banks pleased, "saying so in a soothing tone." "Without the insurance complications, I would have made sure you received a fair settlement." Count on me. Neither you nor I need to be concerned. " His voice had dwindled to the same level of hushed despondency as hers.
  • "There is no time to waste. In the morning, I wish you a better day. " Then she hung up the phone before he had the chance to respond. "Excellent," she said aloud. In the end, "I eventually find someone who makes me forget all about the misery of not being able to have the love I desire, yet he's just as unreachable, but in a different manner."
  • Despite Amanda's best efforts, she realized she was being naive. Although she had only known him for a few hours, her awkwardness and plainness made her hope she could get to know him better. When she went out, she wore a decent pair of jeans and boots, rather than a dress and high heels. In her bedroom, she picked up the old, raggedy rabbit off her bed, and she sighed and stepped in.
  • As she sat on the bed and cradled the toy in her arms, she murmured, "It seems like it's just you and me again." Despite her best efforts, she couldn't stop the tears from falling. She tried to convince herself that it was just the emotional roller coaster she had been on today and not the reality that she was feeling more alone than ever as the most important day on her professional calendar neared. She had a great business Valentine's Day but a terrible emotional one.
