Chapter 38

• Hannah was a cunning lady. She had raised six children in the shrub while assisting her husband in creating his mining empire. She had experienced what it was like to live off the land and be broke and in need of assistance. She never once took her husband's success for granted, and the years she spent by herself on little farms or in small towns before their fortune struck had given her strength and fortitude. She was a natural at playing the lady, but that wasn't who she really was. This bitch was about to find out exactly whose family she was messing with. She still grinned and discussed the wedding as if she thought Elena's opinion mattered.
• After a delicious meal of the best foods and wines, they chatted about their nuptials and how special every girl's wedding should be. Their luscious chocolate dessert was about halfway through when Hannah's phone buzzed, changing her mood. Hannah sat up taller and drew her chair closer to the table. She was aware that her height gave her an imposing appearance. She started asking Elena questions regarding Amanda's preferences. Even while Elena occasionally guessed correctly, it was clear that this woman knew nothing about Amanda's life or her ideal wedding.
