Chapter 17

• Amanda was handed a glass of champagne by Claire's husband Scott, who promised her that she wouldn't be waiting long. Amanda was disoriented from the flurry of action that had taken place earlier in the day, and she was taken aback each time she saw herself reflected in a mirror here. Her identity had been misidentified by that woman. During Scott's interaction with her, she uncomfortably fidgeted as if she were a completely other person in the mirror.
• “It's me,” Claire said as she briskly walked into the room, glistening. She could feel Amanda's trepidation creeping back in and rushed to give her a shoulder squeeze. She confronted her husband, demanding to know what he had done to her.
• "He's been fantastic," Amanda said to the stranger she'd only met a few minutes earlier, smiling. "It's not me, it's all this."
