Chapter 85

  • HIRED
  • After a long length of time that slipped away like smoke in the air, I arrive at the kiosk, and I am being forced to shake this nerve-wracking Adam issue out of my thought. But how can I do that when it is the only thing banging my head? I turn around, making sure that his shadow is not roaming around. But this is a busy road. Even if he were around, hiding behind all these people is so easy. And since I don’t want to cause traffic by standing on the pathway while people are in a hurry to hit their work destinations, I toss Adam in the back of my mind and start walking towards Mr. Julio, who seems so busy even from a distance.
  • I walk slowly, the image of my daughter hitting this merciless ground that day almost causing tears from my eyes, but I am quick to blink them back. It was even by sheer miracle that she was not hit by a car. I don’t know what could have happened. And I don’t want to imagine. To the man who hit her and ran away, you can escape my eyes and even hide from the law, but karma will definitely catch up with you someday. And to God, I am grateful that nothing serious happened to my daughter. It was a miracle, actually, which I don’t take for granted.
