• I am alone in the house again, and everything has gone quiet, apart from the noise inside my own head as I talk to myself. Two days ago was the most terrifying moment I have ever lived through. I have never been so scared that my hands were trembling and my palms were damp. What would I have said if Nelly had walked in and caught her husband and me, back when Gary was trying to force me to kiss him in my husband's old room? How could I have defended myself with Gary's hands on my waist? What would Nelly have thought when she went inside to hide, and we took a while before going to find her? In Nelly's eyes, my life would have fallen apart completely. I was the person she trusted so much, the one she told most of her secrets to. I would have made myself look like the biggest fool she had ever known.
• It was lucky that Nelly did not go into that room. I think she heard some sounds of struggle, and it made her stop.
