• Halfway to Derek's room, I paused and quickly buttoned up my gown. I returned to Ella, who was still in the room, as I had something I needed to clear up. When she saw me, she looked surprised and asked, "Are you changing your mind?"
• "No, I haven’t changed my mind," I replied. "I just wanted to let you know it might take some time because of how angry your dad is. I’ll delay bringing up the idea of inviting him to the party for now. If I mention it directly, it might upset him more. I overheard him when you two were arguing."
