• Ava’s POV
• Why would he even say something like that? My mind just… couldn't grab onto it directly. It felt like he was drowning, and somehow his words, his stare, everything about him, was melting me right there. What was I even supposed to do with myself? I didn't have a clue. What could I possibly say back to him now? Should I just nod like I hadn't heard a single word? Yeah, that made a weird kind of sense.
• So I nodded. And then I saw him smile, but it wasn't a happy smile. It was this half-smile that made my heart pound way too fast. What the heck was he thinking? Did he really think I was a complete idiot who wouldn't understand anything?
