• Sitting in the observation car on the Winnipeg-Churchill train, Derrick watched the stunted coniferous trees and muskeg quickly pass by as the train headed north through Canada. He relaxed, lounging in his seat, arms behind his head. A vent below his seat blew warm air against his feet and a steaming cup of almond-flavored coffee kept his insides hot. Meanwhile, outside, it was cold. He had touched the window and felt the chill rush through his hand and up his arm. His warm hand had left a print where he’s warmth hand met the cold of Canada.
