• Helena was not optimistic. Her husband was arrogant, overbearing and no longer fancied her, but her mother had taught her it was a woman’s duty to keep her marriage going and so that was what she would do.
• It took quite a lot of planning. First of all she had to sneak off and learn the techniques, although with Leonard’s work ethic she didn’t often have to lie about where she was. Then she had to find the perfect venue – there was no point in this going off half-cocked (so to speak) because she’d skimped on the hotel. But at last she found it. Small, luxurious and ruinously expensive, it was in a discreet part of Knightsbridge. Although her mother was long dead, Helena felt she would have approved.
