Chapter 12

  • I kept in touch with Nila mostly after I returned home, but even that slowly faded away after a few years. I did finally return to Delhi, but it was six years since my first visit. By then, Ajanta had moved to Canada, Rashmi was married and pregnant with her first child, and Nila was madly in love with a fellow financier and was planning on marrying soon and moving to the UK where he had a major job with some bank.
  • We met, we hugged, but she was very cautious not to do anything more and I fully respected the borders she drew. Of course, there was still Indrani and I did manage to stop by one day when she was alone and reconnect with her.
  • But now I was a recent graduate with a master’s degree in urban design and architecture and I was in Delhi on business. A former professor of mine connected me with several local architects and artsy-fartsy types in Delhi, where they took me to a few talks and events at Habitat and the International Center where I met many interesting people.
