Chapter 40

  • I stare out the open window at the neighborhood. The October weather is unfriendly and it just stopped raining a few hours ago, making the tarmac wet. My fingers work the buttons of my shirt. Jake and I are going out for dinner or presumably our 30th date. Once I'm done with buttoning my shirt, I gather my hair together to tie it. Jake has refused me a haircut. He believes I look better this way.
  • " Leave it, babe." Jake's voice says behind me. I whip my head around to stare at him.
  • He's also dressed and like always he looks breathtaking. Jake arranges my collar and drops my hands from my hair.
