Chapter 59 I’LL DO AS YOU WISH

  • It was dinner time. I sat down quietly, watching the three maids come out of the kitchen with trays in their hands. They dropped the trays on the lengthy table and went back in the kitchen direction. Staring at the trays which contained different dishes, the aroma was striking my nostril, but I was only peckish and didn't have the enthusiasm for food. “Why aren't you eating yet, Amelia?” That was Granny's voice. I swiftly looked up at her to see that she was already sitting opposite the table. “Don't you like what they've prepared?” She asked patiently, having a worried look on her face. “No, Granny, the dishes are incredible. I was only waiting for you to join me first” I told her smoothly, forcing out a little smile. She then smiled and grabbed a plate and cutlery, “Hurry and eat, dear. You're bringing some food to Alexander's room after you're done” Granny notified, causing my heartbeat to skip for a moment. Bring food to his room? But why can't he come over and join us? “He has refused to come down for dinner, and I'm sure he's famished already,” Granny said, directly answering my thoughts. “My grandson may look so difficult, but he's just as soft as a silk on the inside,” said Granny with a gentle smile radiating her lips.
  • “I promise you're going to love him as time goes on,” I lowered my head and secretly released a rueful breath after hearing those words from her then mustered up some courage and spoke up, “But Granny, do you think Mr. Alexander is ever going to like me? He'd made it clear earlier that he would never get married to any lady except his missing girlfriend” I opened my heart and uttered all that was harboring my mind. “And that's why you've to make this happen, Amelia” She retorted. Getting on her feet, turned around and came to sit next to me. All this while, her gaze was never discarding from my face. She took my right hand as soon as she sat down, “You've to make him fall in love with you, Amelia. You see, I've watched Alexander grow up, now, I want to see his children grow up too. Is this too much to ask?” Her tone was full of grievance, while her eyes had become misty. “Take a look at how big this place is, Amelia” She stayed quiet for several seconds, darting her eyes in every corner. “But not even a kid could be seen in it. Tell me, isn't it depressing?” Her tears were beginning to trickle down her cheeks, I moved closer and wiped off the tears on her cheeks while I allow my tears to drip on their own. “It's okay Granny, please stop crying” I comforted her, patting her back tenderly.
  • Now I understand why Granny has been resolute on getting her only grandson married as soon as possible. She yearns for kids. “Then promise me you're going to do this for me, Amelia” I stared at her face in silence, “Promise me you're going to get him to fall in love with you and bear kids for him” The air in the room felt quiet and empty as I continued to stare directly at her not too old but pretty face. After remaining silent for a long time, “I promise you, Granny, I'll do as you wish” I said in an extremely low voice, feeling bitter and grieved in my heart as if I had gulped down a cup of broadleaf holly leaf tea mixed with vinegar. Instantly, her face lightened up, “Really?” She grinned with her dazzling white teeth in my face. I managed to squeeze out a smile and nodded, “Yes, Granny” I said in an affirmative tone, and with that, she swiftly pulled me into her arms and embraced me joyously. Staring into space from her shoulder, I smiled softly. Yeah, if this would make Granny happy, then I'm going to get married to her grandson wholeheartedly.
