Chapter 8

  • I awoke in a sterile, unfamiliar room, my body feeling strangely light. My hand instinctively reached for my stomach, but instead of the swollen, aching belly I had grown accustomed to, I found my abdomen flat and empty.
  • Panic surged through me, and I tried to sit up, but a searing pain shot through my lower abdomen, causing me to gasp in agony.
  • A voice beside me, deep and soothing, urged me to lie still. I turned my head, and there he was—the stranger who had come to my rescue in the forest. His face held a mix of relief and concern as he leaned closer.
  • "You're finally awake," he said, his voice a comforting presence in the sterile room. I struggled to remember the events that had led me here—the fall in the forest, and the desperate need for help to save my baby.
  • "What happened?" I managed to croak, my throat parched. I needed to know the fate of the child I had fought so hard to protect.
  • The stranger—Leo, he had said—looked at me with a sad expression. "The doctors will explain everything to you," he replied, his voice gentle but guarded. I could tell there was more to the story, but he seemed reluctant to share.
  • I reached out, gripping his arm weakly. "Please, I need to know if my baby is okay," I pleaded, tears welling up in my eyes. The fear of losing the child I had fought so desperately to save overwhelmed me.
  • Leo hesitated for a moment, his gaze searching mine, and then he sighed. "I promise, the doctors will tell you everything you need to know. But for now, you need to rest."
  • I nodded, though my mind was a whirlwind of anxiety and questions. Leo helped me recline back onto the bed, and I closed my eyes, trying to find solace in the unknown.
  • Hours later, doctors and nurses bustled around me, their voices hushed as they discussed my condition. I could hear snippets of their conversation—the mention of a successful surgery, the removal of a life-threatening complication. My heart pounded, and I knew the fate of my child hung in the balance.
  • When a doctor finally approached my bedside, her face wore a mask of both relief and sadness. She gently explained that the surgery had been successful, but the complications had been severe. My baby had not survived.
  • Tears welled up in my eyes as the weight of her words settled in. My baby, the one I had fought so fiercely to protect, was gone. I had failed, and the pain in my heart was unbearable.
  • As I lay there, grief washing over me in waves, I couldn't help but feel a strange feeling, I wondered if it was a good thing that the baby was gone. Was it good that I no longer have any connection with that monster?
  • The man who had saved me in the forest was talking to one of the nurses.
  • He looked nice, but I fear he might just be another second Adrian.
  • Men are like this. They are spiteful creatures, green snakes.
  • Leo returned to my side, his expression filled with compassion. I looked up at him, tears streaming down my cheeks, and whispered, "Thank you, Leo, for saving my life."
  • He nodded solemnly, his eyes reflecting the depth of my pain. "I wish it could have been different," he replied softly.
  • Leo tucked his hand inside his pocket, his expression serious. "I am sorry for your loss though," he said, his deep voice filled with genuine sympathy.
  • I tried to put on a brave face, wiping my tears away with the back of my hand. "It's alright. It's fine," I managed to say, my voice trembling.
  • With a compassionate look in his eyes, Leo continued, "Do you have any family?"
  • I shook my head slowly. "No," I replied softly, feeling the weight of my situation pressing down on me.
  • Leo then inquired about my husband, and my eyes welled up with fresh tears as I shook my head again. "No husband," I murmured, feeling the weight of my situation pressing down on me.
  • Crossing his arms, Leo's imposing figure made him even more formidable. He asked, "Who is the father of your child?"
  • I hesitated, my gaze falling to the floor as I tried to blink away my tears. My voice quivered as I finally admitted, "I... I can't say."
  • Leo reached out and gently touched my shoulder. I flinched at his touch, my wounds still tender.
  • "I'm sorry," he said sincerely. "Your wounds need stitches. I guess you aren't a werewolf?”
  • I shook my head, “I am. Not only that, but I am an omega.”
  • “Oh… I guess I was wrong to assume you weren't a werewolf."
  • I managed a small, grateful smile through my tears. "Thank you," I whispered, touched by his kindness.
  • Leo's expression softened as he looked at me. "You're welcome," he replied. "Now, where will you go?"
  • I hesitated for a moment, searching Leo's eyes for sincerity. Finally, I decided to trust him. "If I tell you where I come from, please promise me you won't take me back there. Please," I implored.
  • Leo met my gaze unwaveringly and nodded. "I promise," he said firmly.
  • With a heavy sigh, I finally revealed, "I am the alpha king's... breeder."
  • Leo's eyes widened with surprise at my confession.
  • Leo's expression darkened as he processed my revelation. "Alpha Adrian's breeder. I can't believe he's still doing those things," he muttered under his breath, his voice filled with disapproval. "I thought he had a mate."
  • I nodded sadly. "Yes, he does. But that hasn't stopped him," I replied, my voice filled with resignation.
  • Leo shook his head in disbelief. "He doesn't accept breeders into his pack," he mused, more to himself than to me.
  • Feeling the desperation creeping in, I tried to kneel, despite the pain that shot through my body. "Please, please help me," I pleaded, tears welling up in my eyes.
  • Leo quickly reached out, grasping my arms gently but firmly to prevent me from falling to my knees. "Hey, hey, calm down, okay," he said soothingly, looking deeply into my eyes. "I won't take you back there, Selena."
  • I let out a shaky sigh of relief and nodded, trusting Leo's words.
  • Leo's expression softened as he realized the predicament I was in. "That means I'll have to find somewhere for you to stay," he said thoughtfully.
  • I blinked in surprise, not expecting such kindness from a stranger, especially not an alpha. "You'd do that?" I asked, my voice filled with a mix of gratitude and disbelief.
  • Leo smiled gently. "Of course," he replied. "No one should have to endure what you've been through."
  • Tears welled up in my eyes once more, but this time, they were tears of gratitude.
  • “Thank you, thank you so much,” I said, holding my hands together.
  • “It's alright. You would have to stay with my warriors for a bit as you like to find a job.”
  • I frowned a bit, "Warriors… men? More men?”
  • This sent shivers down my spine. “I… I don't think I can live with men."
