Chapter 29 Joseph Intercedes For Maya

• Joseph couldn’t sleep that night, knowing that Maya was sleeping so close to him. He shouldn’t feel so unsettled by her presence, nor even worry about everything that had been happening to her, but Joseph was unable to stop thinking about Maya and about a way to make Simon pay for what he had done to her.
• The sun hadn’t even risen when he got up. He shook Bryan, who was sleeping beside him. The lawyer grumbled a few times before waking up, startled, as if he couldn’t remember how he had ended up there.
• Bryan let out a startled cry, and Joseph had to muffle the sound quickly.
