Chapter 24 A Nightmare

• Maya woke up before sunrise. She got up cautiously, trying to make as little noise as possible. Finally, the weekend had arrived. She had barely slept in the past few days, so anxious she was, and had to act normal so no one would suspect that she was sneaking away, unnoticed, to spend two days by Joseph’s side.
• Maya feared Sophie might find out and tell Simon. She shouldn’t have to fear either of them, but somehow, Maya still depended on their favors and dreaded retaliation.
• She quickly changed clothes, grabbed her sandals in her hands, slung her backpack over her shoulders, and tiptoed out of the room.
