• Ken hadn't been able to sleep.
• It was past midnight, yet the silence in the house felt louder than ever. Cynthia still hadn't returned. He had asked his aide to check up on her several times, but he came back each time with the same report from the guards- she hadn't returned. Ken stared at his phone, willing it to light up with a call or message—something, anything. But nothing came.
• His thumb hovered over her chat. He had already read her messages- every single one of them- more than once. He hadn't replied. She had pushed him past his limits, even when he snapped at her. She never gave up on him- not once. And now she was gone.
