Chapter 30 Chapter Thirty

  • Cynthia had just returned from the hospital one evening after sneaking out of the house as usual. Before heading to work that night, she decided to stop by and visit her family. As she approached her sister's ward, her steps slowed when she noticed a man slipping out through the door.
  • He wore a black hoodie, the hood down but a dark face cap pulled low over his eyes. His frame was lean and tall, with a subtle stiffness to his movements—as though he was trying too hard to appear casual. The facecap shadowed most of his features, but Cynthia caught a glimpse of sharp cheekbones and a trimmed beard as he turned slightly. His head dipped low, avoiding the overhead lights as he moved swiftly toward the elevator, not once looking back.
  • Something about him sent a ripple through her chest. His pace quickened—too fast for someone just leaving a patient's room.
